Well seems there havent' been any dvdshrink updates in a while, so I was wondering if most of you are using the released 2.3 version or the beta 3.0 version?

3.0b5

There still isn't a way to donate $ to DVDShrink is there?

I dont know...
I would donate money to the guy if I could.
I think his software is worth it.

I just hope he finished 3.0 though...
that layer break thing is probably the last thing that needs fixing really....the rest is gravy

Yes layer break would be nice but I would also like to see "closed caption" subtitle's added. As some DVD's only have "Closed Caption" Subtitles.

I use DVDshrink 3 5 and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and it could be fixed sooner than you think. :)

DVD Shrink 3 beta 5

Works like a charm, not one frisbee yet.
Used it over 100 times.

2.3 if no compression is necessary, beta 5 if it is.

The only reason I don't use beta 5 all the time is because it hijacks the IFO association - something I can't live with, and I don't want to continuously reset the association.

sorry to sound stupid... but what does "stealing the IFO association" mean?

thanks

Basically, beta 5 changes the association of all files that end with the .IFO extension. That is, if you double click on something like VIDEO_TS.IFO (in Explorer), then beta 5 will launch and VIDEO_TS.IFO will be loaded. I prefer to have IfoEdit launch whenever I double click on an .IFO file, so I have to manually reset the association to IfoEdit. This would not be so bad if beta 5 just robbed the association one time, but instead it robs it every time I use beta 5, so I have to continuously reset the association back to the way I want it. Don't get me wrong, I love beta 5, but I reserve the right to decide on my own associations, and I want IfoEdit 0.95 to be the program of choice for me.

Sounds like you could make a script to execute DVDShrink and then reset the IFO association. Would be fairly simply and a decent hack until the bug is fixed.

I've been using beta 5 since it came out and I haven't had deassociation on my .IFO files or any other extensions. Yours seems to be an isolated case. :( There's something evil going on in your computer! Perhaps an unknown virus?

I am not the only one to have this happen, and Mr. Shrink posted in one of the beta threads that he would fix it (actually he said he would change it) in the next release. I'm looking forward to that day! This happens with Win XP.

I had to remove - yes delete - all .IFO assosiations twice and then write them in to windows under "new" with "action" and "icon" to get them back to the way I like (ifoedit) - so it must be made an option or removed! Its nearly as bad as WinAmp.

if there is any chance to have closed captions as selectable subtitle
it would be the definite killer app.

the "ifo-thing" is rather annoying than a bug for me. can live with that...

mine works fine :D, but I did notice my icons have changed for the IFO's

did you others having trouble have IFO's have them associated with Ifoedit previous to DVDShrink?

does it not work now even when you right click an IFO then 'Open with' and then find Ifoedit and tick always open with this?

I can set it to DVDShrink then back to Ifoedit no problem and click away without DVDShrink starting up. Very strange how some of you are having problems

@2COOL, you reckon it's because we have Ifoedit.INI as read only?
did you have your files associated with Ifoedit?

mikegun

it doesn't matter what you are doing. after starting dvdshrink, the association with ifoedit is gone !

so why doesn't it do it on mine?

I have my Ifoedit.INI files set to read only, but I doubt that's it

how are you changing the association?

using right click or via the folder options?

my IFO icons are for DVDShrink but Ifoedit still opens them, no matter how many times I open DVDShrink

IFoedit will open them if you are using ifoedit to open the files.

This isssue is concerning launching them directly from Windows Explorer i.e. when you double click on them it should/will launch dvdshrink unless you have reset your file associations.

Hi, welcome to forums :)

I mean't it the other way, just didn't word it right :o If I click an IFO in explorer, Ifoedit fires up :D

some people are saying it pinches the association back, that's the bit I don't understand because why doesn't it pinch it back on mine or 2COOL's?

all I can think of is setting the Ifopedit.INI in the WINDOWS folder to read only and see what that does because thats the only thing I can think of that may be setup differently as I know 2COOL has his set to read only also

you never know till you try and if it ain't that then I'll look for something else

Its nothing to do with the ifoedit.ini - its in the registry.
There the file associations are writen and overwriten and - messed up.

Before I corrected as I posted above, I tried "open with / ifoedit"
- that worked but is not the same. I then used the "open with" dialog to choose a new program. In that dialog you get the chance of ticking "always with this program" or words similar.
That caused ifoedit to be in the "open with" dialog twice and still DVD Shrink was winning!
The "open with" dialog now showed no check box anymore so thats when I went into the explorer options / associations and re did the thing manually.
Right mess if you ask me.
And its the same reason I wont use winamp except thats much worse with hundreds of entries in the registry.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.IFO]
@="IFOFile"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.IFO\ShellNew]
"NullFile"=""

that's what I have in my registry under IFO, though that's probably nothing special either :)

I think I've found a fix anyway

back soon :)

here is the fix I think

Fix DVDShrink IFO association guide (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/dvdshrink/ifobug/ifobug.htm)

MackemX

MackemX

it's been months since I heard from Digi anyway (DVD95copy), maybe I sent Digi my email I meant for DVDShrink :scared:

Good idea!

Have you seen a ifo_auto_file folder just above the IFOfile folder?

I have one now and that may be the result of my efforts above.
Anyway whatever I did fixed the problem for good.
