Which is the correct IFO?

Since when I started reading this forum, I've been experimenting with my DVDs, especially IFO/VOB editing.
A few days ago I tried to do my first backup: I ripped a movie with DVD Decrypter (IFO mode), created new IFOs with IFOEdit, did all the adjusting stuff (subs colors, get VTS sectors, specifying audio and subs languages) and then burned it with Nero 6.0.0.13 (DVD video).
It works great on my PC, but it sucks in a standalone: it plays just the first two seconds of every chapter; I can't remember the standalone model, since I tried it on my cousin's one (I had collected some money to buy one, but I had to use it for more urgent and important things :( )
I started to think there was something wrong with IFO mode.
I ripped the same DVD twice: the first time again in the way I described above, the second time with File mode, and then I stripped the unwanted VobIDs/streams with IFOEdit (selecting the option "create new IFOs").
Then I took the two VTS_01_0.IFO and compared them with a HexEditor: they turned out to be a lot different :confused: (especially the second half of the files).
What's going on? Am I missing something? Isn't IFO mode reliable?
Does it give VOBs with wrong sectors/navigation packs?

Well I don't know - I always use File Mode in order to have an exact copy on the HD. Did you try that ?

Unfortunately I don't really have time to do this now (I have an anatomy exam at University in a few days:scared: ).
However, the point is: they SHOULD be equal!
What if one wanted to rip just some chapters of the movie? (in this case you are forced to use IFO mode). Would you have to manage with uncorrect VOBs?

Did you get my PM? Does your DVD have multi-PGCs? You mentioned about ripping in IFO mode. If you ripped one (PGC) of them in your movie's Titleset and created IFOs then of course, you'll have a different IFO as opposed to an IFO ripped in File mode.

Yes, the film is the first of two PGCs in the same titleset.
I selected the option "create new IFOs" while stripping in IFOEdit, so I thought it was the same as creating new IFOs (actually it forced me to select also "correct original IFOs", and so now I'm no more sure about what IFOEdit did).
So are you saying that if I take the VOBs I stripped with IFOEdit, delete the IFOs and create new ones, I'm gonna get IFOs equal to those based on IFO mode VOBs?
If yes, what do you think happened to my backup? Why won't it play in a standalone?

Out of curiousity, did you Get VTSsectors for both methods?

Yes, I did.
BTW, I experimented a lot: File mode, IFO mode, creating IFOs while stripping with IFOEdit, creating them after that, correcting Navigation Packs in the IFO mode VOBs (like IFOEdit does after stripping).
Nothing changes: the two different kind of IFOs are always different.

However, is correcting VOBU pointers useful?
It seemed to me that this process doesn't depend on the IFO from which you click VOB extras: is it true?
