hi!

i´ve read the guides from doom9 and they seem very interessting for me.

for some time i used to back up my dvds using gordian knot with divx.

but now i´ve got a sony home theatre 5.1 and want to have the full 5.1 sound on my backups.

so i´m searching for a free programm that is able to put the main movie on one dvd-/+r including 1 or 2 AC3s.

i think dvdshrink would be a good prog for me. but what about quality when i have to compress the video stream?

by the way: i´m planning to buy the NEC 1300 - is this a good dvd burner?

bye, and excuse my bad english...

...but what about quality when i have to compress the video stream? That depends on what you consider "quality". Everyone see with different eyes so what may look awesomely great to another may, not be the same to you. Also, we would not have the same setup as you. e.g. TV, computer, media, software, etc.

The only way you'll be content is to see it with your own eyes.;)

ok, thank you!

as i don´t have any experience with dvd 1:1 (or nearly 1:1 *g*) copying i had to ask.

i just wonder it seems so easy with these programms, when i think of divx encoding with all tricks to get more quality (now it´s easy for me, but first it was hard to learn)...

ciao, rick

The NEC 1300a is a good burner. Its standard firmware is a bit limiting on the DVDs it will accept - but there is a hacked version that is great - it also increases ripping spead from 3x to 12x !
I havn't had a single coaster from it.

I couldn't find it. I have nd 1300A. does it work for this one too?

http://herrie.rpc1.org/ has all the 1300a firmwares you'll need, with the video ripping speed removed, and added support for some other media.

Thanks,
I do have another question though, I ripped a double layer dvd (mummy returns r1 ntsc) with dvd decryptor and only got top speeds of 6.5. I also have a pioneer a05 with speed hack and I get a little over 8x ripping from same disc in same machine. Just wondering what results you are getting from dual layer?
