I fairly new at this. I am trying to transferr my DV tapes from the camcorder through firewire port. The video comes over fine, but the audio pops and cuts out. I have tried two different firewire boards. I have tried the following software: Microsoft Movie Maker 2, Ulead VideoStudio 7, Studio Version 8, and a few other freeware/shareware programs. They all do the same thing. I think it might be a codec problem, but I really don't know. Anyone have any suggestions?

The PC is a P4 2.56, 512MB RAM, and a separate ATA 100 HD for just the video.

Thanks!

Maybe the audio dropouts are on the tape already. I'd recommend to try another brand.

I got a sony trv25 minidv camcorder. I have always got good video from this camcorder. The audio has always given me problems. First there was the pops. Just these random loud pop sounds. Not background noise or motor noise or camera movement noise. These pops were way too loud and random. I went out and got an external microphone. This seemed to solve my problems for a while. Now I get these random and sometimes almost continuous high pitched beeping sound. I get this whether I use the external microphone or the internal microphones. It is totally annoying. I think it has to do with the tapes and the tape heads. I used sony consumer grade tapes but now I switch to sony excellence tapes. This minimises the high pitched beeping but does not eliminate it totally. I am definately thinking about switching to fuji tapes. I did read somewhere where this could be a dirty head but I tried cleaning the head with a minidv tape head cleaner and this did not help. Does anyone have any comments or suggestions about what I can do besides get a new camcorder.

You should spend a few $ on a head alignment on you camcorder.
