Going to linux...can someone direct me to some resources?

Ok, was going to post this in the Linux forum, but this is about as "noob" a question as i could ask, so i decided to put it here.

Finally put my mind to installing linux. I want to have it as a second operating system till i get somewhat used to the format. Can anyone direct me towards a good starting place (i.e. Installation FAQS/ Tutorials) ? I know this doesnt have anything to do with video at all, but im sure ill have plenty of questions about that once i get my feet in the Linux "door".

Well you should have posted in the Linux Forum after all since they could help you best. But have you looked into what Distribution of linux you want to try? There are many distro's to choose from and everyone will tell you differently, but it's all preferance. I like linux Mandrake. Some of the other bigs ones are RedHat, Suse, Genntoo(very hard to install if your new). You can download the ISO's for the distributions off one of their FTP mirror's.

Hope this helps you going in the right dirrection. BTW all the distros have a guide for installing their version. Just look for it on their site.

Redhat is the one all the IT people ive ever talked to say to go with (as far as ease during installing). In searching the net for descriptions, SuSe and Mandrake seem more like what i want to use them for. What i REALLY want is an operating system that doesnt EAT my system resources for dinner as in Windows XP.

Btw, can i repost the origional post in the linux forum or is that a violation of the forum rules?

Don't Repost, when a mod see's it he will move it. And Redhat is what everyone talks about. Mandrake also very easy to use and install, btw post your system settings and we can guess how well you can run it.
