Well 480 x 576 on NTSC format tv?

I live in North America which is 480 x 480, The movie I am trying to
encode is an .avi in the Xvid format but 25fps. I noticed that when encoding with TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 the res. will automatically a just to
480x576 but will this play ok or will it make the widescreen more widescreen???

you're ability to play back PAL content (480x576@25fps) is totally dependant on your hardware. I'm assuming you're making an SVCD to be played back on a standalone DVD player. If you've got a new standalone DVD player then it's likely it can handle processing PAL encoded content, either by on-the-fly PAL to NTSC conversion or at least just sending the signal on to the TV. If the player only allows to send the native PAL signal to the TV then you'd need a multi-region TV set that can handle both formats for the TV to display the image properly. My DVD player (Norcent DP300) can be had super cheap from most Walmarts and can convert from PAL to NTSC (or NTSC to PAL) on the fly, though personally I just don't bother using that functionality seeing as I've got a multi-region set anyway. I think most newer sets are probably being made multi-region by now (mine's a 2 year old 25 inch Samsung that I had no idea could play PAL natively until just a few months ago) though don't quote me on that, and ultimately you'll only know whether or not your particular hardware can play it is after you've tried. It probably wont work (especially if the TV and/or DVD player in question is a bit older) but hey, you might luck out :'>

If it just happens to work, great! If it doesn't you've lost a little time and a single blank CD (unless you use a CDRW of course, although not all DVD players like RWs regardless of what's on it), no big deal over all. You'd just have to play around with converting your video to NTSC (a task easily accomplished with avisynth, although quality will suffer from the conversion) and burn it off again. As long as your DVD players has support for SVCD playback it should work fine after that, guaranteed.

If it is PAL progressive from a Movie, i guess the best Way is to encode it in NTSC-Mode.

All eh need is a SpeedDown of Video the which can be done in AVISynh:

Maybe he has to remove an Audio-Pitch. I use WaveLab to to this.
