- What method should I study -

Hello all! (I hope this is the right forum)

This is my very first post. I'm trying to make backups of my DVD's. As you may know the studying from the very beginning isn't easy. I don't want to use any of the speed over quality softs, but I don't know what quality method I should try to study.
And by a backup I mean real backup with everything in the original disc. Maybe sometimes have to give up some of the audio files if the data amount is very big.

I have tried "Scenarist NT & the big 3" method in the guides section, with 2 movies without a success and I've been thinking whether I should try to study the "DVDMaestro" method, because: when you're doing the big 3 stuff - I mean let the scripts do - you don't actually understund nothing what is going on!! So, I would say that with Maestro you know every step you make and maybe the errors are easier to notice. What do you think? I haven't tried it yet but before I'm going into programms and methods real I would like to here your opinion. :)

well the Scenarist + Big 3 method always worked for me. Maybe if you give us more information about what failed we could try and help you.

I´ve never tried the MAestro way but if you feel it will help give it a shot and tell us how it went.

well.. if you really want to understand what is going on then by all means you should look into serious authoring programs like maestro or scenarist. However, that way will be pretty hard for a newbie because those two programs are not so easy to handle, and doing full backups with them is going to be a pain in your lower backside. As a newbie, your best shot to get some results is to use one of the one click tools. Then I'd suggest you start looking into really simple DVD authoring tools to learn the basics of DVD authoring, and then you can proceed to more advanced ones.
However, if you don't wish to learn the ropes, you should just be a lot more specific with your big3 errors (and please do search the doitfast forum before posting because chances are always that your problem may already have been asked and answered).

Okay, I think Doom9 is right, it's too big a step to jump into the hard stuff. I'll keep using Big 3 soft. If I've understand it right this is good prog because it can handle multipgc discs.

Okay, if somebody would give me the right way to start because I'm not sure about the first decision. Sorry for that, this is so basic stuff for you but I'm not sure whether or not I should use Vob ID in DIF4U with this title.

So, there is only one VTS in the movie and there are 3 PGC's in it.
I can understand that the PGC_1 is movie PGC_2 is WB intro and PGC_3 is a trailer. I'd say no need to use Vob ID?
I can't see the light yet, so can you give me some tips? There's a layer break in the middle, shoud I care about it in this case?

I've been using DVDshrink with great results however, I would like to learn more about the DVD authoring proccess. My question is, How much is it going to cost me to get a copy of Scenarist NT, or would it not make sence for a newbie to try and master/understand such software, without any outside help/knowledge?

In my opinion you can learn all those advanced things if you HAVE time, patience, and a little bit intelligence. Maybe this patience is the main thing, as with computers usually.
Scenarist is expensive, I don't remember it exactly.

Well could somebody kindly verify me that I'm doing this right. I'm n00b but this is n00b forum. So, my movie can be ripped by pgc, right?

sorry for taking so long for u to get an answer.

I second doom9 in his post. U can take a look at dvd basics at the site and u can use the maestro approach in 99% of the cases. I am using it all the time and never failed me.

U can rip this beauty by pgc or in whole. I wouldn't recommend a by vobid rip cause u would break the main movie in two, see the vobids of 2 and 3 comprising the main movie?

If u want to try the maestro methode, rip to your hard disk, CCE or Tmpeg the whole vts set, import audio video and subs in Maestro, import the chapters build and use ifoupdate in 'adjusted cell mode' to recreate the pgcs. Very condensed juice but it can help u isolate the problems that may arise and work through them one at a time.
