I guess the title says it all. I'm wondering if MPC can be the default embedded player to work inside IE, PowerPoint and FrontPage. If not, how can things bo configured such that mplayer2 is used for embedded source and MPC for all standalone files?

FWIW, I've already tried renaming MPC to mplayer2 inside the Windows Media PLayer directory. Winduhs won't let ya do it.

Hi Fred.I'm no expert, but did you try removing the famous "windows file protection" before renaming to mplayer2?A google search on this might help.IIRC, there was a thread in littlewhitedog or something (for another reason there). The other solution (easier for me )is to rename the file in "safe mode" (hit F8).Remember to redo the changes after serious windows update packages (service packs)

regards,
george

Oh, I didn't know about this. It sure makes sense, though, to protect the OS from crashing. Thanks!

delete mplayer2.exe in winnt\system32\dllcache. And then you can rename mpc to mplayer2.exe.

ok, I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure if embedded player uses will work. IT would be great, I'm just not sure if the linkage will work.

Well, I don't have a winnt\system32\dllcache dir.

There IS a file called mplay32.exe in winnt\system32\ with a length of 115k that's just as sticky. It's obviously being replaced from somewhere. Any ideas?
