Hello,

Am I the only one, or is anyone else getting bad Ritek G04 Ritek DVD-Rs from Rima.com? It is really ticking me off. I have burned 6 discs tonight and they are all bad. They burn fine, but they will not read in my Lite-on LTD-163 or play in my Pioneer DV-250. I previously burned 20 discs from the same stack with no problems.

Nero CD-DVD Speed test gives a CIRC error. I am burning on a Pioneer 104 with 1.40 firmware. I have burned at both 2x and 1x. When I try to play it in my standalone, it gets blocky and stutters then locks up. I had the same thing happen on some Ritek G03 discs and had around 10-15 bad discs from those. I also bought these from Rima. I should have learned the first time not to try my luck again..

Or could this be hardware related? The discs looked fine when burned other than 1 that had dark spots on the disc.

What is the Advinfo ? If it's real RitekG04 it's quite strange..

You can also perhaps try to burn one in a friend's DVD burner, or do a clean & fresh install of your windows (with a ghost backup before)

This can help to check if it comes from the media or from some other thing or perhaps both.

I just checked a Ritek G04 that I burned from a batch purchased from Rima a week ago. It burned fine and DVDINFO - Read Error Test came up with zero read errors. I used the same drive for burning and reading.

I've never/very rarely suspected bad Ritek G04 media on a Pioneer 105.

Yes Advdinfo reports them as Ritek G04 discs. I contacted Rima and they said they would credit the bad discs. If I run into many more bad ones I will send the whole batch back.

I will try wiping the system and see if that helps. I am running windows 2003 server so I'll just try putting windows 2000 on it to see if that helps.

burnt about 20 of Rima's G04. No trouble yet.

Pioneer 105 or Sony.

I recently got a 50 pack of Ritek G04's from Rima (about 3 weeks ago) and so far they're pretty good. Other than that one incident which turned out to be the firmware plus a flaky dvd-rom drive I had.

I think I have run thru all of the bad discs (I hope). Other than the one that had spots, no others have shown spots and the other 4 had read errors and circ errors. I switched the burner over to my XP machine and have burned 5 or so more with no problems. Maybe it was the OS on the other machine or something. Hopefully the other 75 will burn with no problems. Thanks for everyone's advice.

I recently bought my first batch of DVD-R G04 from Rima. The discs won't play in my Sony player which is highly compatible with a wide variety of media. All the compatibility reports I read on DVDRHelp and elsewhere indicated that G04 media works great with this player. On the other hand, the discs played fine on a variety of other Sony players including one model that is the next step down from mine. The discs even play fine on my sister's six year old ProScan player.

Since I've never tried G04 before I didn't know what to make of the situation. I ended up sending the discs back.

That's nice of Rima to take them back. The problem is not media related but player compatibility related. It's nice to know they are good folks. Makes my buys from them more reassuring. :-)

Curious but did they credit you the entire purchase or just the remaining media?

They gave me a full refund less the shipping. It ended up costing me about $10 for shipping both ways. I'm going to stick with buying discs locally.

I don't know if I'd blame the Ritek G04's since they played fine in other players.

But to each his own. :)

I'm not blaming the G04's. I don't know what to blame since other people have success with them in my player and burner. But I did know that they weren't any use to me with the results I got.

it could be a couple of things...perhaps a rare bad batch of riteks...(low chance)...perhaps your sony player is bad (high chance)...since people with the same model player can play riteks..i would suspect your sony player has some problems with dvd-r's. strange that it can read all other brands. it reads princo and optodisc ok?

I just got my burner recently and I haven't tried princo or optodisc. Yesterday I burned several DVD+R discs (Ricoh and MCC) with CopyToDVD and got coasters. But the same burn worked fine on a DVD+RW. Today I tried Nero with the Ricoh DVD+R and it worked fine.

I didn't try Nero with the Riteks and perhaps that would have worked. I did use ImgTool/DvdDecrypter though. I guess my Optorite burner is really picky about media and burning apps.
