Basically I want to capture VHS video through my ADVC-100 to my computers firewire as DV video. Do some image processing, editing and prepare for dvd-r.
I use Scenealyzer Live for capturing and Vegas Video for editing.
I want to run my video through some avisynth filters to clean up and inverse telecine.
What is the correct order to do this? Is it best to edit my video before or after image processing in avisynth?

IS your source PAL or NTSC? Are you using DV-specific editing apps?

My source is PAL
I don't know what you mean by DV-specific editing apps, but I'm use Sonicfoundry Vegas Video 4. It's good for DV but I think it handles other formats too.

I asked because NTSC DV is 4:1:1 which has some peculiarities.
Typically, this is what I do and why.
First, I will cut and save the various clips as individual files.
Personally, I NEVER modify the source files. I ue AviSynth to filter and frame serving to an editing program if needed. If anything doesn't go as hoped, it's easy to tweak the settings. If you modify your source, there's no going back (other than to re-capture/read from the tape.)
Remove the letterbox so it doesn't affect area-based filtering if there is important material near the edges. Sometimes this is difficult if the filter/process requires standard frame sizes.
"Quality" filtering to correct the source: With NTSC DV, this means converting to 4:2:2 color. For analog source, I use CNR2 and Peach. Some people really like Convolution3D. The only good dropout/scratch remover I am aware of is SpotRemover for VirtualDub.
After this type of thing, you can safely do overlays, transitions, etc.
The last thing I do is add borders to get full D1 then I'll resize and compress as desired. Vertically resizing interlaced source is a big no-no.
