Walk me thru this guide, please?

This is the guide I have been using for the last 3 months and havent got a single working DVD yet. I have trouble starting at step 5. If possible, could someone please explain to me in detail what I need to do? Either I am not understanding something or that the guide implied something I didnt know. You can either give me a detailed walkthru or read my long post and find the possible errors.

My scenario:
Source DVD: DVD9, 120 min, NTSC

Tmpg settings:
2 pass VBR
max-8000
avg-5000
min-0
interlaced
bottom field first
I,P,B-1,5,2
Closed GOP-unchecked

What I have done so far:
Used Decryptor to rip to harddrive
Used Ifoedit to remove trailers but kept menus and various other extras
Used DVD2AVI to demux the video and audio
Used Tmpg with the above settings to encode the video to be smaller

Problems that I have:
In step 6, it says

"Open up the latest version of vts_01_0.ifo in IfoEdit and select VOB extras."

Would it be the same ifo file that I removed the trailers from?

Then I clicked vob extra->remux->add video stream. Do I need to do anything once it is done remuxing (get vts sectors, menu points, etc)?

Results:
Nothing in the DVD menu is selectable. Video is choppy, jerky, erratic. Sound doesnt match up at all. Not just out of synch, but the sounds are from a different chapter of the movie.

I would point the following 2 to you.

1. min bitrate in Tmpeg is best to keep at 500. Lower settings r reported to cause problems in playback.

2. and most important. Always perform 'Get VTS Sectors' before burning. In fact u should perform this after every removal or otherwise tampering with the ifos. ifoedit corrects the pointers as part of its procedures but just to be on the safe side never heart anyone.

What about field order? I heard problems from people using the wrong field order. Is there a way I can find out which one is correct for my encoding?

field order is giving jumpy playback when there is fast horizontal panning of the camera. Obtaining the correct field order is an easy task if u use the 'bitrate calculator' app and load one vob or an mpeg2 file in it.

Could you tell me what are the symptoms of having a low bitrate?

I pressed "Get VTS Sectors" both before and after remuxing.

I remuxed my video and sound in Ifoedit to see what are the final results. Again, I dont know if it is caused by the low bitrate or not, but I am experiencing problems that I managed to have written down to ask people here in the forums.

In both Ifoedit and WinDVD, video is jerky and sound doesnt match up at all. The DVD starts up in some other chapter instead of starting at the menu. The sound for the menu can be heard though. Did removing the trailers before the reencoding cause any kind of problem?

I used both Ifoedit and WinDVD to play the Vobs but both resulted in different problems.

Ifoedit started off with the wrong video from some other chapter other than the menu. The sound came from the menu though.

WinDVD started off with the menu but the sound came from the wrong chapter. In addition, nothing on the DVD menu is selectable. I can select them in Ifoedit though.

If I want to edit out pre menu intros (FBI warning, etc) and extra trailers, do I need to do it before or after I reencode the vobs? I may have changed an entry point to the FBI logos at the beginning, which may be one of the problems.

I just got a NEC 1300A yesterday. Burned my first backup of "8 Mile" (which I actually bought... :) ); here's my "script":
Comp setup is "important"... NEC:Master Secondary;OS(XP Corp):Master Primary;RIP Diretory:master primary.
Disk in NEC; open DVDDecrypter. Set rip directory to the following C:/DVD RIP. Start rip. After the rip point "DVDtoOne" to the DVD RIP folder. The new destination for this conversion MUST BE- C:/VIDEO_TS. Make another folder called AUDIO_TS;the video will contain the ripped dvd while the audio will contain NOTHING!Once DVD 2-1 is finished open STOMP RECORDMAX 4.5: point it to C:/DVD RIP and output it to VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS. Total rip time about 50 minutes at 4x. If you don't cancel the RECORDMAX verify it will add 20 minutes to total time.
My copy came out great; sadly it would not play on my APEX 1200 but it did play on my GE 5803. Two really great machines; the Apex plays VCD and so does the GE.
