Capturing LP Tape - messed up frames

I recently captured 10 VHS tapes without any problems. I got to do 2 more, but they were recorded in LP (long play). When im capturing, it sometimes freezes the picture for a couple of seconds.... while the audio is still going. A little 1cm line appears on the top of the video.... and it keeps recording the actual video, but the other 99% of the capture area is simple standing still or reapting 3-8 frames over and over again. This isn't random, it happens in specific areas of the tape.

I have a similar problem when capturing from a tape recorded in LP. The tv card only captures 18-20 fps, when recording from TV or a tape recorded in SP there are no drop frames. I tried with a non-rerecorded tape to discard it was because of the bad quality of the tape. I think this happens because the way the video signal is recorded in LP, but I do't know. I record the tapes in SP to avoid that problem, but I'd like to know why it happens. Maybe someone whoknows how VHS exactly works....

Do you have an ATI card? Because this sounds exactly like ATI's Macrovision detection kicking in. It's very sensitive, and probably some instability in the VHS signal is triggering it. If that's what it is, I don't think there's any way around it except by purchasing a special box (perhaps a video stabilizer, TBC, or a macrovision defeater).
