Moved from "DV" to "DVD burning", because the topic is not DV related.

Use Ulead Movie Factory 2.0 or DVD Workshop to author and burn to DVD-R. These programs accept the VRO file directly and then you can add chapter stops, pretty menus, etc. before burning to DVD-R.

No. Ulead Movie Factory 2.0 (entry level) and DVD Workshop (pro level?) are strickly DVD authoring programs. Ulead Video Studio is an editing program with limited authoring capability, but it won't accept VRO files directly. You must change the VRO extension to MPG, then do something else with the newly renamed MPG file (I think you have to demux it or something like that) before Video Studio can accept the file.

Ok moviefactory and other programs don't care if your disk is dvd-r or dvd-ram, so it doesn't make sense to say movie factory doesn't recognzie your dvd-ram disk. That's too low level and movie factory and other programs like it are high level.
What makes sense is your computer can't read dvd-ram disks. only certain dvd-rom drives will be capable of reading dvd-ram disks. there are some great toshibas that will read dvd-ram...you need to look up the dvd-rom drive's specs to find out if it will or not

I've had my dvd recorder (Sharp) for a week now and I gave up on using VRO files. I hate them....too hard to get into a useable format. even changing the name to mpeg doesn't always work correctly if you did any editing. My Sharp records in VRO mode on DVD-RW's...I can read the disk but the VRO file format is messed up after editing it.

I'd suggest making a recording using dvd-r in VIDEO mode...don't use VR mode.
then finalize it, and your computer should have no problem reading it.

I think you got the same question as mentioned on this page.

Probably my experience can be of some help.

A disc to disc copy cant work as the file architecture of dvd-rams and dvd-rs are different.
