Movies, DVD same as AVI?

Is it possible for say block buster to rent movies via the internet? is there a reason why they could not do this? I have never seen a movie that was a true DVD but onlu AVI's etc. and was wondering why, Is AVI the same exact thing in the end as DVD? so many questions, so little mind.

The DVD FAQ (http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.1/) site will give you some insights into the format, as well as reading up on DVD structure within this forum. At its most basic definition, AVI stands for Audio Video Interleave, a little googling will fix you up here, as well. I don't see why Blockbuster couldn't get into the internet rental business, I've read recently that even Wal-Mart is jumping into the fray, if they're not in it as of this writing.

hi,
have you heard of www.netflix.com (or another one of these services?). they rent DVDs online, but got a bit of a different system than blockbuster & Co!
definitely an attractive offer though (imho). unfortunately i do not live in the US and so i can't use it :(

anyway, i hope this is what you were looking for, if i misunderstood your question, pls excuse me :)
