I have an athlon 850 first of all... (dont post"get a new pc" cause im broke... )

Does anyone else have this problem,.. if i activate any of the dering settings ( i can have deblock on FULL) the movie laggs behind the audio or is actually ahead of the audio track..(any type of audio , mp3 ac3 etc)

Also, since my computer runs at about 2 fps while encoding at slow (i dont bother to try slowest) am i wasting my time using 5.1 or can the MV file really help out... (i used to get about anywhere from 8-17 fps depending of filters and resolution--now i get about 8-12 with 5.1)

Finnally, has anyone seen that 5.1 creates more misquiotto effects than its predicessor... ? using bicubic (0,0.5)?

I'll look into that for you, if anyone else has further/similar information on this bug can you please report it to the Software Feedback forum under http://forums.divx.com (so I don't miss it).

The MV file can help out quite a bit by saving the encoder from doing the motion search on every successive pass. My advice though is to leave the MV file disabled and do 1st pass on Standard mode, followed by one nth pass on Slow (or Slower) mode.

You will notice standard mode to be slightly slower than slowest mode under 5.05, but I believe this is down to significant improvements with b-frames.

Are you using either of the new Psycho-Vis modes?

nope im not using any of the psyco vis modes.. and im going to stay away from the slow and slowest modes.. IT JUST TOO DERN SLOW>. take over a day to do ONE pass ...

If i dont use the MV.. will i get better results.. or should i just use it on the first pass (im going to be using standard all the time mind you).. does writing the MV slow down the encoding.. ..( i do see a SLIGHT gain in the encoding.. durring the nth pass.. (i only do 2 passes since i really dont see a point to more than that)

I have the same problem even on my Athlon 1800+. If I enable any of the dering settings, my CPU usage immediately hits 100%, I get stuttery playback, and everything goes out of sync.

On all previous versions, I could easily run MAX deblock and MAX dering using only 50-60% of my CPU usage. On DIVX 5.1, I cannot even enable dering using an Athlon 1800+.

Also, I cannot save my Auto-PP "FULL" mode... will not stick as default.

COPIED FROM ANOTHER THREAD
----------------------------------------------

Just another question regarding post-processing....

On my Athlon 1800+ with 512mb of RAM running a high bitrate 640x480 DIVX5 clip:

No post-processing: 28-36% CPU
Min deblocking, Min deringing: 29-40% CPU
Full deblocking, min deringing: 48-58% CPU
Full deblocking, medium deringing: 100% CPU
Min deblocking, Medium deringing: 100% CPU
Min deblocking, Max deringing: 100% CPU

Therefore, if I set deringing to anything other than MIN, I quickly max out an Athlon 1800+ using DIVX 5.1. In all previous versions, I was able to use max deblocking, max deringing with no issues and around 50-60% CPU usage (including Kaukara). Was deringing disabled on previous versions? Has it been enhanced in DIVX 5.1?

Of course, playback is fine using partial and full modes. Although, if I configure the codec to FULL AUTO, the setting does not seem to stick.

Thanks...

You are not alone!!!

I set post processing to 'full' on my P4 2.8GHz PC and I got shuttering. So how powerful does a PC have to be!

Personally I think the problem may be cured by totally removing all previous traces of DivX from the PC and reinstalling!

This makes me wonder if the same problem occurs for those users who install the 'Player' only and not the full version with codec?

Same here! It works ok on lower resolution rips, but anything over 608x352 stutters and the audio lags... I can fix it by enabling "partial" automatic post processing level but then I loose the deringing option. On earlier versions I had no trouble enabling max post processing...

Just for the record - the problem also happens on divx videos encoded with earlier versions, not just 5.1.

The problem went away if I carried out a clean install of the beta codec and player. Or if I viewed the encode on a PC with DivX 5.0.5 installed!

Hope this info helps

is there a way to use the divx 5.05 decoder filters and still have the divx 5.1 encoder installed.. (or be able to switch without a hassle..)

if i could TRICK ffdshow to do this it be REAL cool...

that is what ffdshow should be.. I should be able to extract decoding profiles somewhere(preferably to that directory) and use the decoder filter that i want for the specific 4cc code of the file...

In my opinion introducing ffdshow into the mix, could complicate matters!

I'm quite lucky as I/we (the company) have many PC's on our network to play the encodes on.

At home I have 2 PC's (not including the kids) each one has 3 boot drives. So by using this method I am able to install and use different versions of DivX on each partition!

In my opinion. It's good policy to have more than one boot partition on your PC anyway!

I had the same problem (System: Win2K, Athlon XP 2100, 1GB RAM, using ZoomPlayer). I installed 5.1 over 5.0.5, and if I set deringing at medium on a 352x240 video (not sure which version it was encoded with, but definitely before 5.1), processor usage would jump from around 25% to 80-100%. At max deringing processor usage was 100% solid. Uninstalled and reinstalled (no reboot) and now processor usage is at about 10%/25%/40% at the respective deringing levels. So it looks like something gets screwed up on an upgrade installation.

Thanks dsmith

Well there you have it then! It looks like it's a drivers thing!

Lets hope other users find it as easy to sort out as dsmith did!

All very useful info

Cheers

EDIT

I must admit, after I saw that the 'post processing' functions had been moved over to the player (nice idea by the way), that there might have been problems with upgrading. Especially if users decided only to upgrade the codec and not the player as well!

No luck for me - fully uninstalled 5.1 (I upgraded from 5.05) and resinstalled clean. I still get the stuttering a freeze frames with deringing enabled :(.

Jeeze, I'm begining to sound like a DivX employee!
