Warning: Vdub+DivX5.1

Hi Everyone,

Got the new Codec and tested something around.

Everytime using VirtualDubMod gives me
the following warning:

Dub: I/O thread has not cycled for ten seconds - possible livelock

What could be the reason for that?

Actually does anyone have the "perfect"
settings for

DivX 5.1 Encodings @ around 1000 kb/s

Nothing to be alarmed by, it's just a warning saying that the codec didn't encode for 10 secs. Happens to a lot of people, but it doesn't affect quality one single bit.

Hi everybody,

Ive downloaded DivX5.1 and wanted to start my first encode with it in VDub...

But VDub crashes everytime when encoding should start... :confused:

DivX5.05 worked perferctly...
Ive tryed all kinds of input n' options but VDub crashes everytime !

My OS is WinMe with DX9b...

Sombody else with this problem ???

It would appear that some DivX 5.1 users are experiencing problems at the moment (in much the same way some DivX player 2.5 users are experiencing 'shuttering' playback problems). Try de-installing all versions of DivX you may have. Re-boot and install DivX 5.1 from scratch. Re-boot again and see if this helps!

By all accounts it should do.

Make sure you are using VDub 1.5.4, and you avoid this known issue:

You are encoding in VirtualDub and:
* 1-pass quality based
* Profiles are disabled
* Content is encoded as interlaced

May only happen under batch mode, not certain.

Sorry to hear you've not had any joy using VDub 1.5.4 (mod)!

In the meantime if you did want to encode using DivX 5.1 you could try MPEGmediator 1.5. This application will accept just about any Mpeg stream including multiple (decrypted) vobs. And convert them to a DivX stream!

It's quite easy to use and very quick!

But now I cannot play the resulting file... :D

Think theres more than one problem in DivX5.1 for me... :(

Well that's very odd. It's always worked very well for me.

Did you generate a 1 pass or 2pass encode

Are you able to view the encoded files properties?

If you do decide to stick with it you will find the cropping and resizing tools very easy to use too!

Well, I'm sorry for my newbiness, but I saw this thread and couldn't resist (instead of wasting space with a new thread). I was trying VirtualDub AC3 (1.3c) with a DivX5 video, and when I pressed the play button I could see the frame counter working, but nothing new was displayed, only the first frame.

I just thought it was a problem with my slow PC, so I proceeded to recode that video into an Xvid. As a result I got a video wich seemed to be ok, with the only problem that it only showed the first frame... same thing that Virtualdub_ac3 did... what's wrong with this?

Input was a old CHASER-Trailer (MPEG1/MP2) length is about 1.20 min.
I used it 1000 times before...

Output was simple 1-pass (default settings/ no profile/ no Bframes)
780kbps video / 128kbps audio / no cropping or resizing

File size is 24,0 MB ???

Gspot shows

File:
381 bytes / Not a valid AVI File

Stream Type and A/V Interleave:
Type Non-AVI File - Type Unknown. / IMRR n.a. / IL n.a.

Audio & Video:
All n.a.

WOW... Something went damn wrong here... :eek:

PS:
MPlayer2 shows a message... class not found,
and VDubMod trys to reconstruct the file... :confused:

Well if you have installed the application correctly. Which it would appear you have. I'm at a loss to suggest what's wrong!

You could try deleting and reinstalling the application. And this time don't bother installing the 'MPEG Output Plugin' - if you did the first time around. As it's not really necessary!

My copy works great. It's never failed with any of the DivX beta's or WMV9 VCM

Hi AchtungAffen, and welcome to the forum. My advise is get the latest version of VDubmod. It has ac3 support and IMHO works much better than the app you are useing. Trying to compress a compressed movie is difficult to get good results and will not gain much.

Could my problem have to do that DivX5.1 uses a new way to write or read the AVI container ???

Dont know if it does, but think Ive read something like this...

Because VDub trys to reconstruct the file... I thought my comp. has problems to read the container or the headers (not much advanced in this, just blind guessing...:D)

[PS: MPEG Mediator newest version is 1.5 ??? Or isnt it ???]

Ive had no problems with divx5.1 encoding so far.. (at least non that werent my fault)

I frameserv with avisynth 2.5 and use virtualdub mod (latest version with all the dlls that they require--according to the dl site)

and then i mux with avimux(best program to mux with ive found)

ive done two pass and one pass.. used the mv.. used standard, slow, and slowest settings.. used the psy settings both fast and slow.... ive never touched the resize any other filter.. i use insert keyframe every 350 frames(cause divx 5.1 puts a lot in there so i dont need a lot of extra ones..) and motion search at about 20%(divx 5.1 does a good job with this setting in standard mode(if it even uses the setting at stadard mode)...

and ive never had any problems.. BUT with the DECODER i still have problems.. i deleted ALL the divx settings.. ALL The divx files and regestry settings and etc.. and did a fresh install of divx and it still makes the video jump to keyframes a lot and lag a lot when you have the dering setting on at all..
