Any VideoLAN experts out there?

Thought I'd see if anyone around here is using VideoLan (http://www.videolan.org) on a consistent basis? I messed around with it for a little bit tonight, and it seems to work ok. The only problem I have is the high fluctuation in volume on the client machine when I'm streaming a DVD... and the fact that it doesn't seem to downmix from 5.1 to stereo... I'm really looking for a reliable server->client sort of solution to streaming DVD movies. PowerDVD with a shared DVD drive is the only other thing I've tried. (Playing mostly unencrypted DVD movies btw, afaik, encrypted ones won't work)

Any thoughts, workarounds, etc.?

encrypted ones should work fine with VideoLan...
...I work with one of the main developers and we use it a lot at work (he wrote it's ogm support...small world huh? lol)

VideoLan would be the perfect solution if it had some sort of normalization in the output, and a proper downmixer for audio...

Shouldnt DNC be done on the client side instead of server side ? Do they stream the unaltered AC3 or convert into something else before ??

The Win32 version client/server are the same program essentially... It streams by default as AC3, however you can transcode it in realtime to something else, like MP3, or OGG, but when you stream it and select say 2 channels, it appears as though it just encodes L and R instead of downmixing all the channels into L and R.
