View Full Version : Instantcopy, 'hidden' authoring feature, may work with other Apps

I think I've found a way to crop the start/middle/end of any title you want, so you can get rid of the start/end credits of the movie for example

you can cut out partial or complete chapters/cells so it's like the reauthor feature in DVDShrink but you get to keep all the menus/extras also

all you do is change a few numbers in IFOEdit and anyone should be able to do it as no VOB modifying is needed, they remain untouched, just simple copy 'n' pasting figures does it

this is not fully tested as only I have tried it successfully, so I cannot yet say if it works 100% of the time as it needs testing by more users to check the results on standalones (especially fussy ones)

for obvious reasons, I'll be waiting until IC8 is officially released before I upload a guide though :(

You mean those titles are physicaly taken out after IC8 processes it?
Ora is it just disabled?

it's all done previous to using IC and you only modify a few numbers in the IFO to 'trick' IC into seeing only what you want it to see

therefore the finished product does not include the bits you 'hide' :)

IC8 removes complete titles (PGC's) anyway but this method removes parts of titles. You can either remove complete chapters or cells or even parts of chapters and cells

I would have posted more info quicker but I've been trying to trick DVDShrink also but have yet to solve it. I have posted on the DVDShrink forum butthis method may also work for other DVD backup tools such as IC7, DVD2One etc which I cannot test so I will be posting a guide soon so users can try it

I'm still playing at thhe minute though trying to understand what's going on and to find the simplest method that will work best as there are a few ways to do it and some have errors (though that can be overcome also)

for example, it takes me about a minute to crop the end of the movie but explaining how & what is going on to others would take me an hour so I've just gotta get my head round it first so I can make a simple guide :D

there are no guarantees it will work but it seems OK to me using PowerDVD but I'm not sure about fussy standalones (I don't have a working standalone at the minute so I'm off to borrow one) but maybe with some feedback from users it can be overcome as I know there will be questions and problems

and if it does work maybe some clever whizz can create a GUI or automate the process because all you are doing is rearranging the IFO

here is the guide in rough form HERE (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/strip/crop.htm), looks long winded but like I said once you've done it a couple of times and know what to do it's a matter of minutes to do (if that!)

it does not work with DVDShrink as other figures also need modifying but maybe with more testing I may find a way

as for IC, I'm not sure if it works with IC7 but I do know it works with IC8 and after I processed it I got exactly 4.37Gb and it played back just fine in my borrowed standalone

the whole process takes an hour which was 15 mins to rip DVD, 5 mins to mod IFO's, 25 mins to process with IC8 (speed setting) and 15mins to burn with IC8

apart from cropping the movie you can also crop the extras by removing cells etc too with various methods but I'm still testing at the minute but so far results seem to be OK

any questions, suggestions, errors, results with other programs etc just post them here

cheers :)

@MackemX

A similar method has been previously brought up in this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43403) but using the DVD2AVI/vStrip method. This method is credited to VidHack. But a few posts down, htc10825 came up with the idea on using IFOedit too to get the sector point.

You just made a better looking guide though.;)

Now you tell me :D and the funny thing is I vaguely remember this thread HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43403) :) but because of something else

good thing using this is IC actually ignores the bits you have 'cropped' and does not include them in the final output giving more extra valuable space to want you want to keep

DV95Copy, DVD2One (demo) & DVDShrink don't :( and I don't know about IC7 until someone tries

what about my other suggestion in this thread HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49580#post368117), has something similar come up before as this is what I was actually looking to do before trying the cropping

I must visit the IFOEdit forum more :p

Which post are you referring too?

the last one regarding the 5 PGC's :)

I believe DVD Shrink check the V/C on the VOBs and then compares or tries to find their references in the IFO. For IC, it just looks at the IFO first.

the IC burned result worked perfect in standalone with that 5 PGC example with 3 removed :D. All it did was display the black screen for a fraction of a second then return to the menu

that makes it so much easier to remove stuff. I know IC has a title removal feature but all 5 titles were linked by VOB ID 6 so when IC removed a title it removed all 5 linked titles whereas this way it leaves the structure intact but allows the removal of one or more titles within the linked group

I have been playing with DVDShrink and trying to trick it into ignoring parts like IC but it always ends up in the final output, so I'm going to leave it for now as IC seems to do the job just fine for me with the minimum of effort. Maybe DVDShrink himself could help with this?

DVDShrink 2.0 shows just what you want it to show and also the preview only shows what's referred to, but then includes the unreferenced material during the process and final output :(

It would be helpful if DVDShrink made an option to ignore the unreferenced material as this would make the possiblilty of reauthoring very simple and quick using IFOEdit by just quickly modding the IFO's without touching the VOB's
