Looking for a superfast mpeg editor \ renderer

I want to fade my mp2 music videos in and out, and all the video editors I have looked at, e.g. Vegas, Premiere, takes ages to render the whole video again when all I want is to fade in at the beginning and out at the end. Applications like TMPGenc doesn't appear to have effects like that available. Am I expecting too much, or is there a solution?

I'm no expert on video editing, but I think you might be expecting too much. MPG, being lossy and asymetric (taking much longer to encode than decode), isn't suited for editing.

From what I've heard, almost all editing is done on raw or otherwise lossless AVI. It's only converted to MPG when all the editing is done.

I figured something like that. Maybe I should do the fades in AVI and then convert to mpeg.

What you need is good Mpeg cutter and joiner programm.
Then you need to cut begin and end where you want transition effects - of course cut at keyframes. And need to save medium part too.
Then feed your favorite effect creator program like Premiere or Power Dorector etc with that short clips. After adding transitions join them with main part in correct order.

I don't know is there some intelligent program which can itself perform such way of editing...
