I was reading that some films that are digital like star wars and matrix are film at 30fps.. True or False ??

Also my bro was reading that the reason simpsons,family guy and futurama come out on dvd in pal first is something to do with the way there filmed.... anyone know if these are true and if so whats the reason they come out here first??

Some films are filmed using dv, yes its digital. This has been done on some indie movies and on several major motion pictures as well. Spike Lee for instance likes to use DV alot. I believe that Star Wars Ep I only had certain scenes filmed in dv, they were ones that would require extensive effects added to it later, and thus a digital source is easier to work with. I believe all of Ep. II was DV, and all of Ep. III is supposed to be DV. Unless you pay an arm and a leg, NTSC DV is always shot at 29.97fps, but obviously Lucas sprung for the 24fps progressive cameras.

Yes matrix was shot on conventional film, but this runs at 24fps not 29.97fps. When DVDs are released the original master reel is converted to either PAL (25fps)or NTSC (29.97fps.) Typically NTSC DVDs are just slowed down to 23.976fps and then telecined to 29.97 on the fly by the decoder.

I don't know why those particular types of DVDs would come out first in PAL regions.

Those digital movie cameras have nothing to do with dv (as the form of the digital video standard of the regular video cameras). They are completely created to fit the needs of the movie industry. One of the main things is that all movies always play at 24 Hz. Digital movie cameras also have creater resolution than the normal (mini-)dv cameras. Even the copy played on your local theatre has more details("resolution") than your regular video camera.

Digital cameras in movieindustry have much bigger res. than DV. As I read they can shot at 24, 25, 30 fps and perhaps some others.
Also, they shot progressive video, not interlaced as DV.

Series (Simpsons, Futurama, etc.) release dates for certain regions often have to do with syndication rights.

Some movies are shot with a handheld DV camera and have to be touched up to look good for conversion to cinema! Jackass the movie and I think the blair witch project too.

28 Days Later was also shot in DV. I didn't see it in the theaters but some reviews I read did mention that the quality wasn't that great because of it. Does anyone in PAL land own the DVD? How does it look?

I have'nt got it myself but i have seen the dvd of 28 days later, looked fine to me as far as i can remember.

Most DV cameras capture in (near-)DVD resolution, so apart from telltale black halos around bright objects, you shouldn't be able to notice it much when watching it on DVD.
