I've experianced a slowing of my CCE encoding speed when I disconnect my computer from my LAN. This happens w/ both of my computers.
Main:
2100 XP, 166fsb on iwill xp333r. I usually get around 1.4-.16 and now I'm geting .8
Other:
1.3 Tbirb, 133 fsb on an older EPOX mobo. I usually get around 1.2, and now I'm getting around .5
I'm not sure why this happens. I searched around the forums but I couldn't find a anyone w/ a similar problem. Thanks for any help.

That sounds exceedingly odd.
Do you mean that you're encoding along at 1.4, you pull the network cable, and encoding drops to 0.8?
Or do you mean a week ago you were getting 1.4, and now you're getting 0.8, and the only thing that changed is you disconnected the network?
If the former, I'd check task manager to see if there are any network related processes that are stealing processor cycles or eating up memory when the network isn't there. You can also run performance monitor to see if anything else odd is going on.
If the latter, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Encoding speed can change significantly based on a number of things (resolution, filters in your avs, etc.).

What operating system are you running?

Both systems are running Windows XP. Legitimate copies (dunno if that matters) that are completely updated.
This happens with Kedirekin's 2nd senario. I had to disconnect my computer from the network b/c I had to move it for a couple weeks. Just to make sure it wasn't the movie, I re-encoded a movie that I had done while on the network. Before it encoded at 1.4 and it dropped to 0.8 like the others.
I've also tried killing processes that I didn't think were needed. Also, I disabled my network connection and deleted my network drives and that still had no effect.
I'm about ready to pull out my hair on this one. I have no clue why something like this should happen. I think it might have soemthing to do w/ windows explorer but i'm not sure.

This wild speculation may sound stupid, but maybe it has something to do with power management. There could be an issue with your motherboard, and maybe when it notices the network card is not in use, it reduces power to the network connection, but in this case it is reducing too much power overall, and causing a slow down in your processor, or hard drive. Try updating your BIOS maybe. If your network connection is located directly on your motherboard, try disabling it in the BIOS. If it is a PCI card, just take it out, and see what happens.

I have all my power management options turned off.

This really does sound too odd for words.
If you open task manager while CCE is running, is the processor being used 100%?
In the process tab, click the CPU column header and see what's taking up the processor. Is CCE using 99%?
If CCE is using nearly 100% and your encoding has slowed down, then it can only mean your processor is running slower. Is there a black hole just outside your window? Are you traveling at nearly the speed of light?

Incidentally, just as a test, you could try encoding a version avs.
Create an avs file the following single line:
version
This eliminates all disk IO and a lot of AviSynth processing from the equation. You should get 3.0 RT or better (actually, if you normally get 1.4, version.avs should get about 5.0 RT). If you don't get high RT with version.avs, something is definately up with your PC.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, i was out for the weekend.
It doesn't seem to matter what script i use.
Also, it doesn't seem to have anything to do w/ an acual internet connection. I took an old 10mbit hub that I had laying around and just networked my 2 encoding computers together and it fixed the problem. So that narrows it down that its not a program trying to access the internet.
Maybe is has something to do w/ the NIC clogging up the PCI bus when its trying to get connect to a network and doesn't have access to one?
