The last two burns I attempted with nero stay in the writting lead in phase and nothing else happens except time passes. One week ago I did change firmware from 1.4 to 1.33 2X. wortked ok for 10 burns with firmware 1.33

No changes were made in my system or software. Nero 5542 and windows XP. The disks were from two different batches. Their is nothing written to the disk except a black ring. The disk can not be used again. Nero states o bytes written.

Is My drive bad. Was it a bad flash.

It`s over 1 year old so I will try anything to test it,

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank`s in advance
Carthoris

PS: If the laser was burned out would the blank DVD become un-usable

Have you tried burning with anything other than Nero?

I'd try making an ISO image and burning it with DVDDecrypter. If nothing else, it might give you a more educational error message (which would give you an excuse to ask LIGHTNING UK! about it in the decrypting forum - though technically it isn't a decrypting issue).

Thanks for the help. I forgot I could burn with DVD Decrypter.

The drive plays DVD`s ok. I am at this moment erasing a DVD-RW with the drive which will take about one Hr. So far its working.

thanks

That firmware version will only work on older pioneer 104 drives.

You have to try it with a RW first to see if it will burn. My drive will not work with that firmware version.

Today I tried it with 2 RW disks and it worked fine.

Have since burned 5 -R with no problem.
I have no idea what happened.

Thanks for the help
