Greetings all. I am quite smitten with trbarry's vertical filter that he uses for postprocessing after toMoComp(); I was wondering if this little filter was available separately.

I don't think so but it is pretty much the simplest possible filter. It just averages 2 adjacent lines together using the mmx pavgb instruction.
My idea was that, after deinterlacing, we had pairs of lines, one good and one maybe not so good since every other line had to be constructed from questionable data. Averaging adjacent lines made them all pretty much equal in quality. IOW, a way to hide my programming mistakes. ;)

I'm just messing around with IVTC options. Decomb left me with some stairstepping in red, saturated-looking areas that the vertical filter in ToMoComp seemed to handle without many problems.
My current script for this one source is using Decimate to delete "duplicate" frames from ToMoComp decombed output. I know this sounds like a (really, really) bad idea, but I did it mostly because of that vertical filter. I didn't want to smooth the output with anything stronger, and that vertical filter tend to cover up little annoying combing artifacts without totally messing up the picture. We'll see how it turns out in about an hour :)

Surprisingly, the video looks correctly decombed and decimated! I was a little worried about this clip because it is grainy as hell and has lots of areas that are beacons for IVTC bad behavior.
The only problem is that I was too agressive with my bpp. 0.125 is too agressive for xvid even with all the bells and whistles enabled :(. Back to 0.14 for me, I guess.

yeah, i use the vertical filter in tomsmocomp quite a bit for the same things. telecide can do some funny things to anime, and if you've got the time, sometimes it's better to use donald graft's dgbob and then decimate(2) with a tomsmocomp(0,0,1) in between. it is a lot slower than telecide though.
