DivX Deinterlace or Decomb?

I am encoding PAL versions of FRIENDS...

The DVD is interlaced you can actually see the horizontal lines and the ghosting every some seconds.

The FieldDeinterlace of decomb removes the horizontal lines however, it does not remove the ghosting.

I am now encoding the video using "deinterlace all frames" in DivX 5.1 Pro codec. What do you think, will I get better results?

Is there any way to avoid ghosting?

ghosting, as if blended frames/fields? if so, then no.

i find for PAL titles converted the nasty way (with an NTSC > PAL converter box, rather than IVTC and spedup or 1 interlaced frame per sec), it's best to field match using telecide(), and then if there's still bad interlacing, use tomsmocomp to get rid of it (it preserves detail better than a simple deinterlace, but still not perfect).

you may even try pfr() for NTSC(FIlm) -> PAL conversions.
