How on Earth install BTWincap drv. in XP?

First thing: is it worth to bother at all?
I mean, will capture in V Dub VCR work at full PAL res. and enough fast? (Because of wrapper)

I tried to install both versions of BTWincap, but always failed with different error messages, or with message about successful install, but driver still didn't appear in device manager or programs for capture. I cleaned all capture related keys from registry etc.
By manual install I always get message about 'error occured' and 'access denied'. It's not because overwriting some system file, there is nothing with name BT848.sys . Audio capture part installs OK, but it's complete useless - I don't see that software uses it.
Is problem that there is only one file in installation (plus .inf file of course)? Perhaps it requires some additional files installead before? I'm really confused. Searched this thread and around Net, but didn't find any solution.

Board is VIA KT266A, there is no much card in machine.

Here's what I've done, though with WME, where I had similar problems:[list=1] Remove all drivers (BT install program can do this).

Either reboot or "find new hardware" so that the OS asks you to install new drivers.

Do not cancel the install. Instead, let it search, and allow it to fail finding the appropriate drivers.

When the driver install fails, the hardware components from the card should be listed in the Device Manager as "Other" -- with the big yellow question mark icon.

Then and only then, install the BTWinCap driver.[/list=1]

If you use the manual install, you must first manually edit the .inf file to set things like tuner manufacturer etc.

it is better to use the installer, you get a wizard to set all these things (or you can have them autodetect).

If in the future you want to install these drivers manually you can search which of the c:\windows\inf\oem**.inf files belongs with the TV card and save it in a folder with the drivers, since this .inf file is customised for your card.

For me it was worth it for the option to capture PAL-60 (NTSC tapes played on a PAL VCR)

I made it all, get them as Other with yellow question mark. But still same error.

Your suggestion to let the manufacturer's drivers fail and then to install the Btwincap drivers worked perfectly with my PixelView PlayTV Pro in WinXP.

I could even set the default video to Pal60; and now I, too, can save those old NTSC video tapes.

Btw. card is Pinnacle PCTV pro.

After trying every advice, I installed finally BTWincap driver. It was in one fresh XP installation, and only so I was able.

So, now I can answer on my first question :) :

It's not worth from several reasons. CPU load is higher than with VFW drivers under Win98SE, BTWincap driver is buggy, it has problems with colors and their settings. Preview is special problem - it increases already big CPU load, so is best to turn off, what is not useful at all. Combination of VFW drivers & V Dub VCR & BT Tweaker is much better, unfortunately it works only in Win98/Me. Preview is from some for me unknown reason excellent - it is in same res. as capture itself, without any frame decination or detail decrease.
