I need some help chaps

I have recently bought a lite-on DVD+RW (LDW-401S) and have made some backups of my DVD's. I have used DVDXcopyXpress, I have also tried DVDShrink/ImgTool as well.

I can make a DVD. They play back on my PC. It plays on my brother's player (? which brand) but it DOESN'T WORK on my TECHNIKA 1020.

The DVD+R guides all say that the technika is compatible with DVD+R so why don't they play?

Do I need a new player, or could it just be wrong media? If so, what shall i go for??

Thanks (sorry for being so dumb, but this is not easy stuff to find out!!)

- Note that i have a new title for this thread. That should appeal to all those Pedants amongst you. And thanks for the help - Most impressed!!

Over at dvdrhelp.com, there are only 2 (out of 7) reviews for the Technika 1020 that say it's compatible with DVD+R. True, there aren't any reviews that say it isn't compatible, but 2 positives is not much to base a conclusion on.

With that few reviews, it could be that one manufacturing run is compatible while the next is not, especially as the Technika is a low cost player.

If the DVDR plays okay in your brother's player, it's almost certainly that your player can't read the media. You can try different media, but it's pretty much hit or miss finding media your player will like, and it might not like any of them.

I have a Technika 1010, which is kind of picky. Are you playing DVD+R or +RW ? Mine won't play e.g. Nashua +RW's, but will play the +RW disc that came with my writer.

And... most of the times it won't recognize the +R's I put in. It gives me a 'no disc' or 'disc error' failure. But when I switch the player off and on while the disc is in the tray, it will recognize and play the darn thing !

So maybe you should try this (switching off and on) aswell, and also try other brand media.

What kind of error do you get ?

You must have missed that part about double posting.

you must have missed rules 8 AND 9 in your reading. :P

I would recommend trying with different media to see if it helps.

As for the software - Haven't tried nero yet. Just the two i mentioned above

As for the Media - Cheap, chearful and unbranded. I havn't bothered running software to look at the media spec (but i could?)

As for my name. Think i'll stick to beginner. At least for the first few years. If all i ever manage is to get the darn thing to make easy DVD backups, ill be a happy chappy.

I admit double post !!
