Need Avisynth script optimized for cartoon/anime encoding.

I'm trying to create a KDVD from Divx source using CCE and would to know if there are any scripts or guides optimized for cartoons/anime.

Nothing I can' find that's concrete. Only suggestions and bits of pieces here and there.

Well unfortunately that's all you're going to be able to find. There are no magical scripts that work for all types of cartoons or all types of sources (clean/dirty sources, ect.). Trial and error for each source you plan on encoding is still (unfortunately) the best way to do it right.

Since most of what IS known by people on this forum on the subject has already been discussed at one point or another, and reduxing is frowned upon, you'll have to wade through all of it and pick out valuable advice on your own. It is a pretty daunting task, especially since some of what you may find on this forum might be dated.


I'll give you a start with noise removal filters. Take a look at Convolution3D, FluxSmooth (my favorite at the moment), Deen, MipSmooth, MSmooth, VagueDenoiser, PeachSmoother, and Undot. There are some others as well, including Avisynth's built-in temporal and spatial smoothers.
Convolution3D, FluxSmooth, Deen, and VagueDenoiser would be the most general purpose (I think). MipSmooth and MSmooth are more geared towards cartoons, but might over-smooth your source.
For sharpening, MSharpen works really well for cartoons.

Biased as I am, I would disrecommend any contrast-enhancing (that is: along black picture elements a white halo is created, and along white picture elements a black halo is created - very ugly artifacts) sharpeners. They are extremely ugly and as DVD authorings also use them, there even is a filter to remove it! (UnFilter) Talk about evil, ehh ;). If you want to sharpen anyway, I would advise sharpeners like SSXSharpen and (a)WarpSharp.
