How To Blank Out a TitleSet with a Single Program Chain (Optimized)

This is almost a lot like my first version, which has now been replaced with this guide in this thread, but with 2 less steps. All I changed in this guide was our Destination Directory in Step 3. Instead of using another folder to store you new VOBs, I had you just strip the files into the same directory your movie is also in.

Like the title says, this guide is only for TitleSets that have only one Program Chain (PGC) in them.

It’s so quick and easy to learn! :D Before we get to the steps, there’s something I need for you to know about.

Every VOB has to start with a VOB ID:1 and a CELL ID: 1 right? With that said, a 15 frame blank VOB that the only thing in a TitleSet has a VOB ID:1 and CELL ID: 1. If you can't find one, here's a ZIP (http://www.deano.dsl.pipex.com/backup/files/BLANK_VOBS.zip), provided by me, courtesy of MackemX. There's a file inside named 1_BLANK_CELL.VOB. Download it and unzip.

Jan 22, 2004 Update: If you need to create a single NTSC/PAL VOB with VOB ID 1 and Cell ID 1 then download this free VOB creating tool BlankVOB (http://www.iespana.es/jsoto/tools/blank_exe.zip), courtesy of jsoto. ;)

Jan 23, 2004 Update: New Step 3 has been added to give you the option of keeping one cell or keep all cells blank. Default recommendation is still to keep only Cell_1 at VOB ID:1 and Cell ID: 1. I recently came across a single PGC Title that didn't have it's first Cell set to VOB ID:1 and Cell ID: 1. It was this attention that I have updated the guide.

Here’s what the 1_BLANK_CELL.VOB looks like below in Figure 1 when looking into it’s IFO / VTS Overview in IFOedit.

Notice [V/C Id: 1/ 1]? That’s [VOB/CELL Id: 1/ 1] if you didn't figure it out.

In Figure 2, here are the files and sizes of our DVD that we are going to work on. In this DVD, I’m going to shrink Titleset 2 (VTS_02), which is our movie, for the fun of it. :p

We want it to look like Figure 1 so let’s start some action.

1. Delete all our TitleSet VOBs, VTS_02_1.VOB to VTS_02_06.VOB (Figure 2), or you can drag them to another folder if you want.

2. Copy our blank VOB into our movie folder and rename it as VTS_02_1.VOB. You also had the option to rename it when using BlankVOB. (Figure 4)

3. Browse to our VTS_02_0.IFO / VTS_PGCITI / VTS_PGC_1 in IFOedit.Scroll down to the bottom section, Cell Position in VOB. We need to only edit Cell_1 if you have more cells in this PGC. So again, Double click on each line and change both values to 1. This is to reflect the changes you done above.

Cell Position in VOB:

Cell_1: has VOB ID.....1
Cell_1: has Cell ID....1

Optional: If you want to keep all your cells and have them referenced to your inserted blank cell VOB, you can do the same for every cell in this table. Keep in mind, if you are going to do this, each cell will be played and it will take a little longer for title bypassing to occur. Just tell yourself which is quicker...one blank cell or 2? ;)

For example...

Cell_1: has VOB ID.....1
Cell_1: has Cell ID....1
Cell_2: has VOB ID.....1
Cell_2: has Cell ID....1
Cell_3: has VOB ID.....1

4. Click on “VOB Extras” button and have these settings checked. Click OK when done.

Options
X Strip Streams’
X Correct Vob-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointers in VOB-files
X Correct original IFO files

VOB Expert Options
X Remove P-UOps
X Remove Macrovision
X Adjust Vob-Unit pointers
X Adjust Audio/Subp point.

File/Directory Paths
Destination directory: (browse to our “NEW” folder) See Note
Remember to uncheck your “AutoCopy Menu-files to destination”

Note: If IFOedit says to select a different directory, then create another directory and browse to that.

5. Uncheck all streams and “Correct IFO tables” should be checked by default. Click “Strip it” button to start process.

6. Wow! That was quick! :p Anyways, you’ll now have a message box saying “Finishing correcting VOBU pointers!”. Click OK.

7. Close IFOedit

8. If you had a different directory for your new files (Step 3) then select all your files in this directory and drag them over into your original directory. Click "Yes to All".

9. Open IFOedit and select any IFO. Press your “Get VTS sectors” button. Click Yes and OK.

10. Press your DVD Play button to test out our new product. You should see the Title you have now stripped.

I wanted to use any example so that's why I wrote this in the guide.

Should I say 'just fabulous' one more time :D. Yes it works very well, my LoTG :cool: :cool:. I used this guide to build my BONUS backup disc where I replaced the whole movie with a blank clip [very applicable here as most main movie titleset has only 1 PGC]. The benefit was the backup disc ran smooth and no more need for button deletion or bypass codes, yayh! :p

When I set my destination directory to the directory where my movie is, it says that it cannot overwright the original VOB files, please select a different directory.

Great work 2COOL, ive learned from this guide how to blank out a single PGC VOB but how could i do this to a single PGC menu file such as VIDEO_TS.VOB or VTS_01_0.VOB.

It should be the same concept with just setting the VOB IDs and Cell IDs in the VTS_*_0.IFO / VTSM_C_ADT to V/C : 1 / 1. You would replace the menu VOB with a single cell blank VOB and then correct the IFO by mock-stripping VOB-IDs in Menu Extras.

Most of the time, you can delete playback on the menus in your Menu Language Unit and then stripping out the VOB-IDs in Menu Extras.
