Hi All
Just installed WinXP Pro,setup all my needs, then proceeded to backup a DVD only to get an error saying not enough Virtual Memory - so altered Virtual Memory to 500MB (recommended 192MB),still CCE will not load an .avi(which is a .dv2 converted with VFAPI) using an avs script.
To make matters worse VFAPI Converter now has an error saying it cannot read my .dv2,saying it is not a "proper" .dv2 :(
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don'tthink running any video editing software with only 128mb ram is going to be a good idea since defaultinstall of xp pro using pretty much all of it. You will be paging the whole time. lucky to get like .25 realtme speeds. I'm not sure but not enough physical ram is probably the cause of cce error.
reboot pc and before starting any programs, start task manager and under performance tab, what does your resources say for used/available physical memory?

so what would you recommend? 256? 512?

hehe.
as much as you can aford or your system can handle. there comes a point when more memory oesn't help but 512-1024 will definitely speed up our pc for very little money (depending on memory type used)

well
do this
CTRL+ALT+DELETE
then
Performance
see how much ram is available before you open CCE
I have 512-128 (for my vid card) and it works pretty good, although I am planning to get total of 1.5 gig...eventually

just wondering...why are you frameserving your .d2v file into an .avi file via VFAPI then using avisynth... just create your .avs scripts using the .d2v file directly...its faster.
or if youre lazy like me use DoItFast4U to demux all your files into .ac3 and .d2v files, and it'll also create .avs scripts for you.
plus you DONT want to go back to win98 since it uses fat32 file system...NTFS is the way to go

From the FAQ:
Q14.3: CCE-SP 2.66/2.67/CCE-Basic leaks memory when encoding from an AVISynth script. How can I fix this?
Again, this happens only when the AVISynth script does not contain audio and seems to be a new bug in CCE-SP and CCE-Basic. When you are monitoring memory usage in task manager during encoding in these versions, you'll notice that for each file and for each encoding pass (be that one pass VBR, CBR or multipass VBR) the program grabs another large chunk of memory and never releases it until the program is closed. Depending on the number of files and passes, you can eventually run out of memory.
The fix for this again is to add a fake audio track to the AVISynth script as outlined in Q14.1, above.
