DVD Copy - Different Region?

I am about to order an American DVD as I live in Australia and this particualr movie isn't released here. Its for a fathers day present and i wonderred if i can import it, rip it, and burn it in the Aussie Region. I have a sony dru510 +- DVD Burner. Any information would be much appreciated.

If you use DVD Decryptor to rip the DVD to your HD then by default region protection will be removed, so from then on whatever backup method you use, the backup will be region free.

As it will be NTSC however you should make sure that your equipment supports that, otherwise you will have to undertake an annoying NTSC->PAL conversion.

Aussie DVD players are generally good at supporting NTSC though.
