Hello peeps,

4give if this has bin answered b4.... but tiz l8 and now tired and my brain hurtz from all the reading. BUT is it possible to create all the files needed to author a dvd from just the main movie files after using dvddecrypter by using ifoedit??

Say this is your main movie files...

VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
VTS_01_6.VOB


Use this guide, Create new IFOs (http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/createifo.html), for your main movie files.

If your movie had subtitles, the colors would be fuzzy green after creating new IFOs. You would need your original VTS_01_0.IFO for updating your subtitles color table in your new VTS_01_0.IFO. Use this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=283424#post283424). keep in mind, it is illegal to backup/copy DVDs other than your own so I hope you have the DVD in question.;)

Getting your movie to fit on a DVD is another story but you would have to provide more information on your movie.

I have read and tried to follow the guide twice now.

Once where the vobs start at vts_09 etc which didnt appear to work i think cause the ifo's that where created refered to vts_01 ?? ( if i not correct pls correct ) and the second with ifo's that start vts_01 etc.... which appeared to work.

The problem is that i'm trying to use clonedvd to then burn to dvd and it complians about the new video_ts.ifo and vts_01.ifo :(

I will try and get time to read the infoedit q&a l8r but guess i need to understand more about the ifo files and how to work them.... if any 1 has any good tutorials ( for a slow coach, i have read the one on the ifoedit site ) i would appreciate..... this all seems like good fun but am chasing my own tail at the mo trying to understand :scared:

IfoEdit will always create a VTS_01_0.IFO so you just rename it if you need a higher number.
If however thats all thats going on the DVD then leave it and rename the VOBs to match.

All DVDs have at least:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB

After that the numbers increase.

Ok i understand that u can rename the vobs.... i even tried it but didnt seem to work??
Is it becuase as i thought that the line in the video_ts.ifo file contains the line

title 1: vts_01_*, ttn_1 (angles: 1) etc etc needs to be changed to reflect the vob number im using or does it refer to the sumthing else??

From what I gather, you want to do a movie-only backup. No menus. There are many ways to go about this. For now, if your movie VOBs can fit on a blank DVDR, just rip the files to your harddrive and again, use the Create new IFOs (http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/Derrow/createifo.html), to get your new VIDEO_TS.*s and VTS_01_0.*s. If your movie was in another Titleset (VTS) other than VTS_01, they all need to be renamed as VTS_01_*.VOB. You can do this before or after. If you don't, IFOedit will produce a warning message that files are missing. At a minimum, for a DVD to be in specs, you should always have these files present.

VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_1.VOB

If your movie only VOBs can't fit on a DVDR, then you have to go the way of transcoding or encoding (authoring). What are the movie files you ripped?

Actually wot im trying to achieve is to rip the main movie with menu's and then use clonedvd to transcode the result to a single dvd.

It is my lack of experience and the 20 million questions i need answering that is causing the confussion; SOZ

i think im starting to understand.

I cant rip the main movie using decrypter and keep the menus as a rule without taking other files from original dvd.

If that understanding is correct is that the rule for every dvd?

I tried looking at the link in ifoedit q&a with regard to doing main movie and menus but alas tiz dead at mo :(

Don't know how big your original DVD is but have you tried DVDShrink? You can strip out unwanted audios and subtitles and set all your unwanted Titles to "Set Pictures". You'll still have your DVD structure intact. Just curious...what DVD and region are you working on?

just playing with any of the dvd's i have in house like frequency, highlander, life of brain etc all region 2

I was interested in learning more about dvd structures and authoring or rather ripping bits out and still having working movie after reading some of the post on this site... but there appears a lot to learn and i perfer to have detailed idiot guides so i can play and understand.

but basically wot i was trying o acomplish was a quick easy method for ripping the main movie with menus and "shrinking" to fit on 1 disk so when we go away i can take film or let the kids use dvd's without fear of the originals getting trash!!

Doing movie-only backups are easier to do than with ones with menus. With menu, there are alot of GPReg settings and navigational jumps. Not all DVDs are authored the same. There are many ways to go about keeping the menus and movie. You'll find through more experience that you will use common techniques to help you out along the way. If your DVD is already a single-layer DVD-5, you're in luck. You can keep everything. If you want to fix it up by getting rid of unwanted stuff like FBI warnings then there are guides for you around. You should browse here (http://www.doom9.org/) on some help too.

highlander is a warner release and i belive if memory serves that i read sum where that nearly all there releases are dual layered and that they do sum tricky things with them as well.

perhaps i might be better off finding sumthing easy to start with.
Have just loaded DVD Shrink and looks like it might do all i want problem is there are all these nice tools around and i have spent many hour trying lots that i no longer know wot im doing when i try and use one im thinking of another. LOL

Not easy and now my spare time is getting less DOH! oh for sum nice press this button and this will happen guides, hehe

I suggested DVDShrink because it's free but it may not want work on bigger size movies (over 6 GBs). That's why there are a bunch of programs out there that have advantages over the others. But, don't post what's best though because then you'll be violating forum rule #12. What looks great to one may not look as good to another. Everyone has different setups on watching their movies so only your eyes and ears will show you the truth.

There are lots of information to read here in these forums. Learn from others and learn from your mistakes.;) Pretty soon, if not now, you'll be bragging about your backups to your friends and family after you mastered a few.:p Hopefully, you'll help others with the experience you gain.

Hmmm #12 good rule I certainly dont force peeps to use wot i like only offer advice based on the principle "imho" and when it comes to sound and vision then thats like saying my missies is better than sum1 elses.......
