I run into a major undersize problem trying to backup Panic Room using IC7. I did a few test runs by making various PDIs. I kept getting 2.74 GB no matter what I did except putting the movie to 100% and get 4.80 GB. :(
The movie has 4 titles as well as 4 vts sets. I stripped vts_02 and vts_03 using IFOEdit. I left vts_04 alone since I don't know what in it (I couldn't see a thing even after demuxed it using Vobrator). It is pretty small anyway. vts_01 is the main movie. In IC7 I unchecked all audio streams (English AC3 Stereo, English DTS, and French AC3 Stereo) except English AC3 5.1. I also kept the English subtitle.
In IC Settings Editor, I set 'DVDAnalyseMaxRel' to 15%, 'DVDSaveQuality' to 0%, and 'DVDAnalyzeMinAbs' to 200MB.
Can anyone help??

Chowskie...
Panic Room is widescreen anamorphic with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1. InstantCopy 7 generally botches it on movies of this type. If you change the compression setting and get the same result size, then that's a pretty good cue that it isn't going to work it for you.
To see what's in VTS_04*, you can try a coupla things:
Run IFOEdit, bring up VIDEO_TS.IFO, check the summary to see which titles are in VTS_04*, then view those titles in some kind of friendly GUI, like DVD Shrink or PowerDVD (using goto Title feature)
- or -
Run IFOEdit, load VTS_04.IFO, and double-click on the various PGC_s contained within. You'll get a rough popup window with video that you can scroll through to see what's what.
If you can strip it down to the point where you need 15% or less compression, you might be better off with DVD Shrink...

Yup...yup...aha...aha...
JFerguson, thanks for answer to both of my threads.
I am actually getting my hands on DVDShrink right now. I get 15% compression and some extra spaces. I think I have to live with that for now. I'm really sick of IC7 for not doing its job. I encoutered the same problem once with "About Adam" a month ago.
About the content in vts_04_1.vob, I did try your methods b4 demuxed it using VOBrator. All showed black screen w/o sound. It playback about 3 seconds. It also contains a AC3 Stereo audio stream. I don't know, maybe it is really nothing there. Or maybe it has something to do with the whole structure of the DVD movie.

Yeah, IC7 can be kind of annoying. However, if I start hitting the 20% mark for compression, then I'll give it a go. It's picture quality is more consistent than DVD Shrink at this rate and higher.
I can't imagine what is going on with that VTS_04* VOB of yours. If it's sizeable, then VIDEO_TS.IFO should tell you what's what.
Unless...it has some of that unreferenced content in it, which are VOB-IDs which nothing links to, but you usually find those in the menu VOBs.
Did u ever figure it out?

Thanks again JFurguson. Nope, I didn't border to figure out what's in VTS_04*. As I said it is so small (1MB) that it won't hurt to leave it alone.
Btw, did u figure out how to do the IFOUpdate as described in Mr. X guide #7 ?
It took me a while to understand the guide and get it to work too. I made mistakes because of misreading the line:
*image* after processing click OK when IfoEdit displays Finished correcting VOBU pointers!
Replace the Original VOB's with the new ones you've just create
I replaced all files, ifo, vob, etc. And he said only the VOB's!!

Ah hell, 1MB! Yeah, I wouldn't even bother! :)
Yeah, I got #7 down, but I do something different which I think is a lot easier and I'll have to doc it over in the IFOEdit forum sometime today; I don't think it's getting much notice here.
