ok so to break it down simply............

1. create MDS file for your pdi images. (DVDdecrypter)
2. mount your MDS file in your virtual drive. (Alcohol 120%)

simple huh?

Ok so we all know pinnacle instant copy is a brilliant proggy (ouputsize prediction aside)
but the one thing about it that really bugs me is its insistence on using the .pdi image format.

how the hell can u view it before burning?

i'll tell you how........
(Before KYUSS.................B.K.) :D
pdi2iso
pdiTOOL
pdiExtract

these methods involve converting the pdi images into either an ISO image or Extracting to the VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS folders.

Dos based proggys that tie up your computer and take up valuable time.

Then i discovered that the latest version of Alcohol 120% included the ability to burn and mount .pdi images!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Joy To The world..........

so i got hold of this program and tried it.............
it doesn't freakin work!!!!!!!!!!

i went to there support forums and looked around and other people had posted with the same problem.....(ADR field detection error)
a moderator/beta tester posted back this reply.........

The meaning of supporting pdi-images is that Alcohol supports "good" pdi-images, unfortunately the pdi-images created by InstantCopy/DVD are corrupt (wrong size info in pdi) - so blame Pinnacle, not Alcohol.

doesn't really help me

so i tried DaemonTOOLS mounting software and that never worked either.

so after more searching for information..my good friend the internet lead me to an absolutely brilliant discovery!!!!!!!!!!!!

MDS Files

These are like extra .cue files that contain information about the images......be it ISO, .Gi .IMG .BIN and............ .pdi

so the solution of viewing you completed movie before burning is a very simple and easy one.........

AFTER KYUSS.............A.K. :D :D :D
===========================================
===========================================
===========================================

ok so after you have converted your film with instantcopy.......
You should have files like this
1.

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage1.jpg

2. Open dvddecrypter goto....TOOLS/Create DVD MDS File.

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage2.jpg

3. Click on "ADD"

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage4.jpg

4. Then click on the .pdi file for the movie you wish to create a MDS file for.

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage5.jpg

5. "OK" it.

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage6.jpg

6. When the next screen pops up just hit "SAVE".

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage7.jpg

7. You should then have this box......Just "OK" it.

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage8.jpg

THATS YOUR MDS FILE CREATED IN A NANOSECOND.......A BIT QUICKER THAN "B.K."

NEXT STEP MOUNTING IMAGE FOR VIEWING

For this u will need a "VIRTUAL DRIVE" installed
Either Daemontools, Alcohol 120% or any other virtual drive software.

1. Open "MY COMPUTER"

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage10.jpg

2. Right-Click on your "VIRTUAL DRIVE"

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage11.jpg

3. Select "Mount Image"

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage12.jpg

4. Then "OPEN" and show it the MDS File you wish to mount.

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage13.jpg

5. BINGO!!!!! your film is now mounted and u can view or burn at your leisure

http://www.nemasis.co.uk/free/kyuss/ddimage14.jpg

Thats it........It might seem a bit complicated here coz i wrote this guide for people (n00bs) that might not be that experienced at using images and mounting them ect.

Hope this helps some people and solves the try before you burn debacle that these .pdi images give you a minor headache with.

NOTE: ................to burn image to DVDR u might need to "UMOUNT IMAGES" before you burn.

Cheers
KYUSS

p.s. LMK if u have any quezzies or suggestions on improving this method/guide.

Have you tried it? Seems simple enough might be a better solution for IC7 users instead of having to upgrade to IC8 to get that feature since the transcoding engine has not changed at all.

Thanks Kyuss, your finding will save us a lot of time. But I think the whole quote should be (taken from your post at Alcohol's forum):

"ok so to break it down simply............

1. create MDS file for your pdi images using DVDDecrypter
2. mount your MDS file in your virtual drive (using Alcohol 120% or DaemonTools)

simple huh?"
There are still nOObs around here :D

tried it with daemontools and it did NOT work. Said "Unable to mount image. Invalid TOC". Has anyone ever tried it with daemontools? Maybe it only works with Alcohol 120%

@irosado: I tried this aswell with Daemon Tools some time ago, but also without success. So I went the way through PDITools instead :(
Take care,

did u make an MDS file first though m8?

TheJez

Yep, used DVD Decryptor to make an MDS file and tried to mount it in Daemon Tools. I got an error, and I think it was indeed the "Unable to mount image. Invalid TOC" message, but I'm not 120% sure about that ;-)

ok m8
so i'll edit my simple guide :)

just been reading on daemontools formums that the next release will support .pdi images as standard as they have recieved permission from pinnacle to include their crazy proprietry format.

updated guide..........why don't the image code work?

is it so the forums don't get bogged down and slow?

if you are reading this thread then please place your vote here so we don't have to even mount the image and hopefully get the VIDEO_TS folder output option implemented

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60356

I will be asking Pinnacle to look at the thread sometime but I'm hoping for a bit more feedback 1st as that is what they wanted when I asked about it before

it's not just how many users want it but reasons why users want it that are needed and I've stressed mine :)

the current trend obviously shows a high majority would like it so maybe one day it might just be implemented

Keep the customers happy and they'll come back for more ;)

I got that "Unable to Mount Image: No TOC" error with Alcohol also.

I followed the directions to the letter but it won't work.

Am I doing something wrong?

back to this now that daemon tool 3.41 still don't work then??

^Smoochie
5th October 2003, 22:03
the problem is not with Alcohol or Daemon-Tools, it is with Pinnacle not following their own specifications for the .pdi headers that instant copy outputs. In such a case i think the only way to mount these images is to use Instantdrive, or to burn them to disk.

On the 3rd of October, a new version of DaemonTools was released, which claims to have PDI-support. I haven't tried it yet, though. Any reports of people who have tried it yet ?

I tried it with Alcohol and I get the error:

"Invalid image file"

I'm using IC8 and the latest version of alcohol.

have you told alcohol to allow/accept pdi images in the settings?

Another relatively clumsy method is to mount the image with instant drive and then rip it to an iso file with dvddecrypter.
