I think keep posts about this over in the DVD2SVCD Basic and Advanced forums but just to let you know it's an awesome one-click for DVD2DVD. Rips, Demuxes, Encodes, Muxes and Authors.

requires CCE or TMPGEnc, 30GB free diskspace, Scenarist 2.6 or 2.7 (NT wont' work), fast computer, etc. Allows subtitles, multiple audio streams (dvd-lab allows only one), etc

annoucement here
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?&threadid=15623&perpage=20&pagenumber=2

http://www.dvd2dvd.org

don't ask how to get these programs
CCE http://www.cinemacraft.com
Scenarist http://www.sonic.com
TMPGEnc http://www.tmpgenc.net

Is it called dvd2svcd or dvd2dvd?
Well I like to called it avi2dvd when doing avi2dvd and dvd2dvd when doing dvd2dvd just like it says in the title bar of the program.

Mr Bass,

I am getting started using DVD2SVCD and have CCE and started using version 1.1.3b2. Now with the new version available today, it seems you need Scenarist. With repsect to encoding DVDs, what does the newer version do better that I should go with 1.2.1? Is it that you can burn directly to DVD-R? If one does not have Scenarist, should I still go with 1.2.1?

thx don

UPDATE:

I removed version 1.1.3 and installed 1.2.1. It does want Scenarist which I do not have. The options for VCDXBuilder VCDImager and I-Author are greyed out, so I can not use versions 1.2.1 at all.

I looked in the directory created by the DVD2SVCD 121 install and it has the directory for VCDImager. It seems there is an option I am missing that allows me to use 121 w/o Scenarist and use IFOEDIT for authoring?

If you can't meet the requirements Scenarist 2.7 and CCE then dvd2dvd is NOT for you unfortunately. No it doesn't support IFOEDIT.

Hi mr.bass,
i used D2S in for my SVCD production the past .
So i know D2S and want to test the "DVD full version" today.

One question:
what are the differenzes between D2S in the DVD mode and DVD2DVD-R, is it "only" the authoring integration ??
I dont know DVD2DVD-R and for me it's the question what to use. I dont want to install this SW when D2S is fine.

Sorry for that question, but an answer would help me to save time.

How does dvd2dvd compare with dvd2dvd-r? Well if you do PAL DVDs feel free to continue to use dvd2dvd-r (if it works for you why change). However, for NTSC dvd2dvd detects CCE settings, etc. and muxes subtitles wonderfully with scenarist. With dvd2dvd-r you had to manually mux with an already created script. DVD2DVD does this scenarist muxing automatically so you when you click go it Rips, Demuxes, Encodes with CCE, Muxes with Scenarist and you have your video files ready to burn.

not to sound too stupid, but is there a guide on using the new version of the program somewhere or is it painfully obvious once you install it? i did a search on the forum but didn't come up with anything useful

thanks.

hi,

I went to sonic website and checked the prize for scenarist.
I found at a reseller page that at least scenarist advanced costs about 16.000 Euros. Is this the version you are talking about needed for dvd2dvd ?

mikegun

And there is an english site offering it in a pro version for a mere 17000 Pounds Sterling - So how about a version that uses Sonics Muxing Engine from MyDVD instead ?

mikegun

So it is true. This is insane. I guess almost nobody in this community owns a legal copy of scenarist....

You spent about 16000 Euros for scenarist and now no more money to buy 2 copies of two towers *g* (or even one *eg*)
ok, enough.
It's just like I'm frustrated because I can't use dvd2dvd....

Ok, we have:

main movie only, no menus
two audio tracks, maximum
some number of subtitle tracks

Right?

Also, yes, the whole Scenarist thing is ridiculous. So, er um, that's just the way it is...

I'll have to give it a whack with Brotherhood of the Wolf. Cool...

The author of D2S cancelled the support to IfoEdit (Freeware) due to some issues with NTSC tittles. Will be supported in future releases as IfoEdit is updated.
Users in PAL-land can still use Ifoedit, just choose "don"t make images"
rename *.mpv fle to *m2v and load with .ac3 to Ifoedit (DVD Authoring--> Author new DVD ). Subtitles and chapters must be extracted from the ripped IFO.

mrbass
29th August 2003, 23:36
Correct, the biggest news is that dvd2dvd is a boon for NTSC users who couldn't do subtitles with dvd2dvd-r, plus don't have to screw with CCE settings either now. PAL users already had it made in the shade with IFOEDIT as their free muxer.

some people seem to be forgetting about the free pies thread.
You are handed a great new tool. So it requires a software you don't have.. you're not forced to use dvd2svcd after all, are you?
It is a well known fact that there is no reasonable freeware DVD authoring tool, so you just got to deal with this. And those who use IfoEdit are well aware of the quirks in the program. While Derrow has long promised to continue working on IfoEdit, you'll see that we are no further with it than when v0.95 was released.
Also, please stop any speculation about the origin of people's copies of Scnearist immediately. It's none of your business where other people get their software from - it's their own responsability and if they violate copy right law it's a problem between them and the copyright holder. But if you start mentioning warez here you bring the problem here and Sonic might suddenly decide that we are secretly spreading warez from this place and shut us down (it is certainly not true but who's gonna pay our lawyers?)

Hopefully that'll get ya started (rough draft bigtime)
http://www.mrbass.org/dvd2dvd

and yes it's necessary to rip them...remember it does the following.

--rips vob files

--demuxes ...which extracts video and audio from vob files (and subtitles if specified).

--encodes with CCE the video to a lower bitrate

--muxes with scenarist (puts the new encoded video at the lower bitrate with the original 5.1 soundtrack(s) and imports the subtitle streams that were extracted if any

Also for those who aren't getting the exact size my guess is your doing CCE 1 pass VBR or using TMPGEnc. I'd say do CCE VBR 2 or 3 pass.

Well, I ran through "LOTR - The Two Towers" through DVD2DVD. I started it and went to bed. When I got up, I saw an error msg saying: "Layout Failed (See Message Window)". I'm not sure what that means, but the finished product, in the folder: "DVD-Image", looks great. There certainly is no mistaking the superior quality of a CCE encode.

I also ran LOTR (in the german version) and get the same massage.

We will see what statement DVD2SVCD can give. :(

mrbass,

Have you checked the accuracy of the number and size of the chapters? My only gripe with DVD2DVD-R was the fact that the number of chapters was reduced by one, and the size of each chapter changed, essentially setting up completely new chapter points.

layer3maniac
1st September 2003, 15:44
Yeah, mine definitly came out too large too. I'm trying it again, this time with the target CD size set at 4370.

I'll let you all know how it turns out in about 6 hours.

Same problem here, with the EXACT same error message. And you are right, Scenarist seems to have completed properly despite the error message. The chapters created are different from the ones using DVD2DVD-R, and both of them are different than the orignal chapters. Hmmm...

Dvd2dvd just does the main movie right? No menus or extras?

mrbass
2nd September 2003, 19:40
correct main movie only...if you want 1:1 you gotta use Big3 (CCE) or Instant Copy for great quality.

also for those who can't get scenarist to run make SURE you have forceaspi installed. It's required. If you do have it installed are you using 4.71 or 4.72? Try 4.60 perhaps.

Also don't chose DTS ..they may/may not make it fail.
