hi guys,

i've done a few encodes with CCE and TMPGEnc, and i noticed that the ones encoded with CCE are less sharp than TMPGEnc. Is there a way to fix this? Does this have something to do with quantization matrices?

tnx!

What Version of CCE? The newer Versions do have an Low pass filter which unsharpens the Movie.
Quantization Matrices... they affect the sharpness your Video ony if you use one with high Levels (like the Low or Very low Bitrate Matrices).

i use CCE version 2.67.00.09 with EclCCE to save the ECL files.
i use the CCE "very low bitrate" matrix 'cause most people in this forum recommended this.
i use "Natural Graphics" preset in Quality menu.

should i use an older version of CCE or another matrix?

Very low Bitrate Matrix... Like i wrote, this makes the Video a bit unsharp. There's no realy need to use it, only if you are using very low Bitrates. If the Natural graphics preset is activated (there's where the Low pass Filter is aktivated too), it makes to Video more unsharp too.

thank you!

i will try with the new settings, or use CCE 2.50. is there any difference between the "Standard" and the "MPEG Standard" matrix?

The Standard Matrix is the universal one. The MPEG Standard is usable for high bitrates, mainly for encoding to DVD. CG Smooth ist for Graphics (Anime ans such things). The Low and very low are for low bitrates.

Which Matrix you have to use depents on your Source and your Goal/Target (SVCD, CVD, DVD..., how many Minutes/Hours on Disc).
