hi,

i´m still reading lots of tutorials but at this point i´ve still some questions. perhaps there´´re answers for it but i haven´t found them yet.

1) how do i determine if a movie is interlaced or not. every says just move to a singel scnene and check if you´re seeing any artefacts. for a newbie that´s not very easy just to check it by visual effect. doesn´t exist any tool which tells you the interlace status.

2) very often i got historical documentations which were broadcasted on tv. i´m using dvd2svcd (cce) to encode and burn them to cd (svcd). do i have to check the avis´ interlace status? in other words do i have to determine wheather the movie is interlaced or not and do i have de-interlace it for converting and burning to cd...?

sorry for the newbie questions but i´m still a but confused.

i would appreciate any help...

thx

hi,
ad 1) no afaik the only way to determine if a clip is interlaced or not is to check. the interlacing artifacts should be very clearly visible in high motion scenes as thin vertical lines.

ad 2) well if you capture from TV it's highly likely that you are dealing with interlaced sources! i'd say about 99% of the sources are interlaced!
anyway, SVCDs support interlaced material so you do not have to deinterlace, but you have to tell DVD2SVCD that it is dealing with an interlaced source. so in the end you'll have to find out anyway :)

PS: those questions weren't so 'newbie' ;) - this is definitely a difficult topic.

in the encoder tab of DVD2SVCD you can specifiy the field order. automatic should theoretically get it right i guess, but i've always specified top/bottom field first. since progressive video doesn't really have top or bottom fields this tells DVD2SVCD/CCE that it is dealing with interlaced material.
