Could be that you are burning your movie to the edge. The edges of some media are most likely to get damaged so it is that is why alot of people burn at 4.35 GB /4.36 GB. Could also be your media. I got a 50 pack spindle of FujiFilm and I was pissed that the bottom 10 had manufacturer defects near the edges. I found that out the hard way. Makes me paranoid that I have to inspect each one upon opening any new spindles so that I can return and complain about them.

probably won't help, but i was having problems with playback on my PS2 with a new brand of dvd-r (Accu's). And then the same problem with all other brands a couple weeks later. Same as you, all toward the end. I used a can of dust-air-spray and the problem vanished.
Worth a try?

Panasonics are usually pretty good with playing bad or scratched media.

As another sanity check, you can go to www.cdspeed2000.com and download Nero CD Speed v2.02. Stick your suspect disc into a DVD-ROM drive (not your burner, they do too good a job at reading past defects) and run a ScanDisc. If your media does not report 100% GREEN, then it's bad...

Here's an example of a bad disc. I burned about 10 of these baddies before figuring it out. This is all movie. My Panasonic played this sucker nearly to the end before the glitches started showing up. My Apex AD-1500 froze somewhere near the midpoint.

POS media example here :) (http://galleries.vinyamar.com/ps/show.php?id=USaQp9yVnRHrmM1xE28Pmpks)
