I bought a DVR-A05 a few weeks ago. I tried burning a dvd with the bundled burner, EZCD6. Worked fine on both the computer with WinDVD and on my standalone player, a Sony DVP-CX875P. The problem was that it encoded with uncompressed PCM audio and a preset video bitrate such that I could only get ~110 minutes onto a disk. I wanted to be able to encode longer, have more control over the settings, and get rid of the crappy EZCD menu system.

I tried following this (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/userguides/120013.php) guide on dvdrhelp.com. I used TMPGnc to encode the files. I used NTSC 16:9 and 224kbit mp2 audio. I changed the rate control mode to 2-pass VBR, the component precision to 10 bits, and the motion search precision to high quality. I set the size to 95% and the average video bitrate ended up being ~4700kbit. I ran the encode which took about 10 hours, used ifoedit and imgtool to create the disk image, and then burned it using EZCD. So far so good, nothing had any errors whatsoever.

I tested it on the computer and it ran fine. I tested it on the dvd player, no go. It opened the disk, recognized it as a dvd, and then spit it back out and went to the next slot in the tray. I decide it may not support mp2 audio, so I transcode to AC3 and reburn. Again, it works on the computer but not the dvd player. It is not the media. I am using the same RW disk that I used on the first dvd that worked. It is the 2x Pioneer disk bundled with the player so I doubt it was damaged after just one use, especially since it still works on the computer.

I'm running out of ideas of what might be wrong. On all the disks, the titles have been >8 characters. I don't think that would be a problem, but I am currently burning a disk with a short title to see if that fixes it. Since I generated the directory with ifoedit, the disk has no menu. I don't know if that would cause problems. I didn't add chapters, but since EZCD doesn't even support chapters, I know thats not the problem. Anything else I can try?

Did you "Get VTS Sectors" before burning ?

I don't think that's necessary on a newly authored title?
