View Full Version : Bypassing the language selection in Blackadder R2?

Hello!

I'm still in the early learning stages but here's something I didn't find that has already been discussed. I'm working on Blackadder R2 discs atm and so far I've been able to split the DVD9 with 6 episodes to 6 to 2 DVDs with 3 episodes each and also removed the annoying BBC/Dolby 55s intro following 2COOLs guide.

What I'd also like to do now and what I do not know how to do/whether it is possible is somehow bypass the language selection screen.
ie after the BBC/Dolby intro there is a languag selection screen for the menu (these are all in VTS01). If you wait there too long it starts playing episode 1 (VTS02). I've identified that this language selection has VOBID 18 and is menu 23 in the VTS01 ifo.
Is it somehow possible to make it jump to the English main menu immediately after inserting the DVD to the player instead of displaying this language selection menu and if so how?

I hope this is not some stuff that has already been discussed or too basic or annoying in some different way but I didn't find it anywhere and the aspect ratio menu removal stuff seemed to be a differnt task compared to the one I want to achieve.

If it's in a separate menu, you can try this. Of course, backup your IFO and BUP before any changes. I might assume that your English menu could reside in another cell in your Menu_23

Go to your VTS_01_0.IFO / VTSM_PGCI_UT / PGC-MENU_23 / PGC Command Table. In your Pre Command #1, you can edit that to jump to your English PGC-Menu_#. Right click and select "Edit Command". Select "(LinkPGCN) Link PGC" and enter your English Menu PGC-Menu_# into "PGC Nr.". Save IFO and BUP. Test in IFOedit DVDPlay.

Basically, Pre Commands are executed prior to the video clip so when Pre Command #1 is performed, it should make the jump. Depending on how the DVD is authored, there might be GPReg settings needed but since I can't examine your whole IFO, I've got my fingers crossed that it will work.

thx, it worked!
great stuff, you seem to know it all :D

I also changed the still time to 255 so that it doesn't start playing the first episode after 60 seconds but stays in the menu.

I've got another question regarding these Blackadder discs.

I have tried 2 things for the splitting so far, the first one is delete the VOBs (not the 0 ones) for the 3 episodes that are not on either discs (so delete VTS02, 03, 04 for disc 2 and VTS05, 06, 07 for disc 1), do Get VTS sectors in IFO edit, the stuff discussed above plus disable some menu buttons. That plays perfectly with WinDVD and PowerDVD but when trying to burn both RecordNowMax and Nero moan about some illegal DVD structure. So I hesitate to burn this. Is there some more elgant way of removing these VOBs (or sizing them down to next to nothing) without getting some illegal structure?

The 2nd approach was to use DVDShrink and slideshow those episodes I don't want for either disc and leave the rest uncompressed. Combined with the other steps this leads to almost the same result and does keep the DVD structure intact, BUT there is one menu entry "play all episodes in order" and this one will of course start with the crappy slide shows now (in case of disc 2) and not skip them like when deleting the VOBs. For this approach I wonder how to make it play episode 4 instead of playing episode 1 when pressing the button (in case of disc 2) and in case of disc one make it return to the menu after playing episode 3.

MenuEdit "replace cell" will do it. You can find more details here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=55261).

What to play next usually defined either by post-commands for the menu based on button index (in the ifo file) or by command associated with the button (in vob file). In second case MenuEdit also could be quite usefull.

...and in case of disc one make it return to the menu after playing episode 3.
You will need to add post command (Call root-menu) to the PGC (under VTS_PGCITI) with episode 3.
