I have just recently begun backing up my DVD collection and have had a problem with video playback on my stand alone player. I am using the following:

Media:
Verbatim - DataLifePlus 1x-2.4x DVD+R - 30 pack
Memorex - 4x - 5 Pack

Software:
DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5
Image Tool classic
DVD Decrypter (write process)

Stand alone DVD Player:
Sony DVP NS-400D
Sony PlayStation 2

When I play my movies in the Sony DVD player I have problems with the video pausing, skipping, freezing and blockiness. This is most obvious with the Verbatim DVD's but happened this evening with the Memorex DVD. If I stop the player and re-start the movie it sometimes plays fine. However, if the player is paused, it will begin to give problems as earlier stated.

When I play the same DVD's in the PlayStation 2, they play fine. Unfortunately, the PS2 does not provide the best video quality.

Does anyone know if this particular player is overly sensitive or if there is anything I can do to fix this problem?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Check your DVD`s with Nero CDspeed ver 2. It`s a free download at www.cdspeed2000.com

This will let you do a scan for errors and also check the transfer rate on the media. With this info you can tell if your DVD player is at fault.

Good luck

the results of my DVD test on the Verbatim disk:

If i am understanding the results, the DVD media looks to have performed well. It also cleared the scan disc test without a problem.

Thanks for the response and suggestion.

Based on your results the problem is the Sony player.
I have a newer model Sony DVP-NC615 and it plays everything I record.
My Format is DVD-R/RW using Ritek 1/4 or Samsung/Beall 1X disks. I took a recorded Disk to BestBuy and tried it out first to make sure it would work.

Good Luck
