I would like if people which had touch with some real motion interpolation software will describe it here. I don't think about simple methods here like those used by deinterlace and similar, but complex ones which calculate and render object positions for new frames when changing framerate or playback speed.
I tried 2 programs, their trial versions which insert logo in picture:
aDVanced DV PAL/NTSC Converter - it has between some less accurate methods motion interpolation for PAL/NTSC and NTSC/PAL conversion. Of course motion interpolation is slowest, but produces best and smoothest result. Program has some limitiations considering in and out file formats. it's mainly intended for work with DV files.
I saw big artifacts by moving of picture frame.
Motion perfect - it's little more flexible, but still works only with AVI files, I was unable to get output when put AVS script. although it accepted it, and preview worked. Latest version produced very quality results. Speed is of course very little, in range of 1-3 fps, depending of resolution etc. It can be used as framerate converter for free values, for creating slow motions from normal videos etc.
Some other possibilities: making interlaced video from progressive by process 60 fps from 24 and then separate fields, select apropriate ones etc...
Philips uses now 'Digital Natural Motion' in some TV's. At site is mentioned PC software for Pentium at 1.4 GHz. but I was unable to find anything more.
