I was wondering if MPEG4 variants will ever facillitate the use of alternate endings/extra footage etc. Selectable at or during playback. I mean we already have the option of multiple soundtracks so why not multi video and soundtracks (Would need to happen at a keyframe point no doubt)?

isn't this the task of a transport stream or the like ? i think it has little to do with the codec itself, but im quite convinced MPEG-4's TS will support it one time, and matroska "promises" something similar. Even OGM could maybe do it, but i think in AVI you can forget it

Everything is possible. This feature is not much used.
But realisation is possible even without multiple video capability. For example via some playlist menu.

i was wondering about that too as for starwars the scrolling texts are on a dvd also in 2 languages available and it is somehow interleaved. if you view just the vobs without any stream processing
