The Two Towers

Hey everybody i wanted to rip the two towers after i decrypted it but its 7 giga only movie is there anyway i can split the movie in 2 parts ?

The Two Towers is scheduled for a coast to coast release August 26th here in the States. If your home country is different than mine, and the movie has been released there, please let us know as soon as possible. If the release date is August 26th worldwide, please take another look at the forum rule #6 and the Sticky at the top of the Newbies homepage. In either case, one of us will gain some awareness, which is always a good thing. :eek:

i bought it this morning in ireland
and am doing some reading to figure the best way of backing it up
i ripped the whole lot to my drive and used dvd shrink to get file sizes

menus 136 MB
movie 7,223 MB
of which
AC3 6 channel 522 MB
AC3 2 channel 296 MB

leaving approx 6400 MB of video file

2 other titles taking up 40MB

i want to keep the 6 channel and put on one disc
dont need and menus or subs only the movie

@ammck55: it is not uncommon for discs to get into sale a few days before the official release date. Discs have to be shipped to stores prior to the release date, and many stores don't stick exactly to the release date.

I bought my copy of Two Towers yesterday 25th August in the U.K. Ripped the main movie with DVDDecrypter. As posted here, massive file. Main movie is 2hrs 50 mins long. I then used DVD2one111 to try and reduce the movie only; down to 4400gb. DVD2one compressed it the first time o.k. I then burnt it with Nero on to DVD, Nero gave a burn fail signal, but had finished the DVD. I tried the DVD in my standalone; plays perfect (Philips Re Recordable). When I try it in the PC no chance. I tried to make another copy with DVD2One it would not compress it less than 5500gb so could not back up. Any suggestions anybody?.....Dave

2 hors 50 minutes is very long. If you have the time I would suggest multipass CCE encoding for best quality.

Yeah, if you can put up with the logo :D

I placed the first one on a single DVD-R using CCE (bitrate ~3100) and it turned out suprisingly well as far as quality goes (quantisation values were good from memory). However I'll probably place this one on 2 DVD-Rs, because I am anal about quality.

Does the structure of TTT seem unusual to anyone else ?

Looking at the main movie (VTS_01_0.ifo)using IfoEdit, there is one program chain in which the cells are grouped together using different Vob ID's.
eg.
chapter 1-26, vob id:1
27-30, vob id:2
31-53, vob id:3
54, vob id:4

It's like seamless branching but with only one program chain.

I've not seen this before, but then i've not yet done many backups so maybe it's not unusual !

Also ifoedit 0.94 won't preview cell 27 ?? (the layer break and where it switches to vob id:2 ??

It's not unusual at at all, it's used a lot. Probably all the parts are encoded seperately.

I don't use ifoedit (I extract streams in vobedit and reauthor with Maestro, don't care about the menu), but the layer break is not a good split point IMO. I split at the end of the first chapter after the layer break (i.e. end of VOB 2, cell 1), where legolas is looking over a cliff. That spot isn't ideal either, but it'll do...
