pioneer 105 1.33
primodvd
recordnowmax
gear pro
datawrite grey 2x
datawrite light/dark pink 4x

hi all,

ive been burning for a long time now, but lately i cant seem to get any disc burnt at 4x without crc errors all over the disc.

i always used datawrite discs, which worked fine. I have the grey 2x versions and 2 different pink 4x versions.

ok heres the deal.

i have always burnt the light pink 4x discs at 4x, which always worked great. but then i received a different version of the pink one, slightly darker....but still 4x. those discs i couldnt get working at any speed, even at 1x, without getting read errors.

oh well, i just took my light pink ones....since theyve always burnt ok at 4x. but suddenly even those wouldnt burn ok anymore!

I could get them working at 2x, but thats not why i buy 4x discs.

im going crazy here, since i cant get working discs anymore at 4x, and tried all kinds of software and stuff.

in short:

before:

- grey datawrite/2x/primodvd=ok
- light pink datawrite/4x/primodvd=ok

now:

- grey datawrite/2x/primodvd=ok
- light pink datawrite/4x/primodvd=errors
- light pink datawrite/2x/primodvd=ok
- dark pink datawrite/4x/primodvd=errors
- dark pink datawrite/2x/primodvd=errors
- dark pink datawrite/1x/primodvd=errors

what i tried:

- upgrading fw to 1.33
- reinstall of primodvd
- other soft: recordnowmax/gear pro
- reinstalling the ide controller
- burning in my 2nd xp install (to exclude software clashes)

----------------------

im going crazy here....what could be wrong here ? it is very weird, especially that i cant even burn my light pink discs anymore which always worked ok. i have a 4x drive...but im stuck with 2x writing and a pile of unusable 4x discs!

any input would be great.

Did you check the DMA mode of your drive ?

You could try with your 105 configured alone as master on the IDE controler, dma enabled in Windows.

Check your aspi drivers. Use ver 4.6 if possible.

This problem happened to me and this was the solution.

Good luck

lec668:
What's the DMA mode "supposed" to be? I have my config set to "auto" in the bios, and the dma setting below that auto-selects to 2, I think it was.
