What kind of MPEG2 encoding equipment does Hollywood studio uses?

I am interested to learn how does Hollywood studio encode their DVD discs? What kind of equipment do they use to digitally master from film to disc?

I assume they use some kind of post-production equipment to perform the MPEG2 encoding. What is the makers of these MPEG2 encoding equipment?

Do they use Intel/Windows based work station? Do they have professional software?

I like to know what they do that is better than us here?

I am given to understand that, generally, medium-sized authoring companies would use an SDI or Optibase hardware card, but some of the very biggest companies use $100,000+ hardware, although the price of hardware MPEG encoding has fallen tremendously in the last few years.

I want to learn how to improve our business.
We have done the usualy wedding, graduation & birthday tapes.
We want to offer DVD disc with better pictures from DV camcorders for commercial and governmental contracts. Obvious, must have faster production of DVD.

TMPGence is our choice, but slow in P4 at 2GHz XP system.
Anyway to add hardware MPEG2 encodering to assists it?

canopus amber is a relatively cheap and pretty good quality hardware encoder (will encode from a DV AVI or from the analogue input), or the MPEG Encoder module for the DVStorm is the exact same thing.

you could also look at CCE for a faster encoding with similar quality to TMPGEnc.

MainConcept Encoder 1.4 is now a worthy contender. With basic DVD settings, it gets 2:1 encoding times on a 2.4Ghz PC. TMPGEnc depending on the movie, can have 1:4 or more encoding times. Like auenf stated, CCE is very fast also, with great quality.

Cinemacraft Basic. $58 ( http://www.visiblelight.com/mall/products/cinemacraft/CCEB.asp ) - I bought this almost immediately it hit the market. It's stunningly fast, and the output quality is awesome. Honestly, value does not get better than this.
