View Full Version : VERY odd problems with Waiting For Guffman

Hello,
I recently ripped waiting for guffman. It is a single layer disc, so I was rather happy with the fact that I wouldn't really have to do much to make a backup.
But, 3 coasters later here I am.
Symptoms:
Every copy on the HD will play fine on my computer in powerdvd.
Every burned copy on a DVD will not display the root menu (keep in mind I have done nothing to the VOB files from rip to burn and the thing plays fine on the hard drive).

Any guesses?
My only hunch is that VTS_02_0 is 0kb. I dont know why it was authored this way, but it contains no data at all. Nero doesn't like this fact and says I should remove the file before burning. I've tried both leaving it on the disc and removing it and the disc still doesn't work right.
I've tried DVDshrink to see if it might change some things to no avail.
If I let the disc play for about 2 minutes the movie will begin to play (there is a black screen instead of the main menu), but other than being very annoying, I still can't access any special features.

Anyone got any ideas? I am willing to really dive into this thing with IFOedit or something...it has me rather curious now.
BTW, it isn't the media either, I've tried 2 different kinds (now im using my RW, should have done that from the beginning).

Try DVDDecrypter to rip the DVD in ISO mode, then burn this ISO again with DVDDecrypter. Thats the way you have to go with a simple DVD5.

...but if you really want to rip all files, you have to call "Get VTS Sectors" in Ifoedit nevertheless if you have nothing changed on this media. Then create an image with any tool (e.g. ImgTool Classic :D ) and burn this image also with DVDDecrypter.

Greets, CouJo!

I'll give that a try.
Here's another odd happening...I can rip the "bad" disc back on to my computer and they play normally again! Hmmmmmmm.....

Thanks! Converting it to an image and then having DVD decrypter burn it worked...why it didn't work in the first place is beyond me. Why I could rip a bad disc and have it play fine I have no idea...guess I wont tempt fate and just be glad its over with. :)
