Hi people,

I have a "little" trouble with my broadband router, the SMC 7004BR and using the good old mIRC. I thought maybe someone happens to own the same router plus knows the trouble it brings with it, otherwise I doubt you can help, cause others failed to :( The problem is as following:

1. when connecting to a server, lets say irc.mir-x.com, my pc never gives an ident response.

2. when someone tries to DCC Send me something and he's behind a firewall, then we can't connect.

I've set up the ports endless times, read on the net about the "perfect" setup for mIRC and tried updating the fw and downdating it, but my router just won't do it. There's an option called DMZ-Host which is meant to put the specific pc in "front" of the firewall, as if the NAT wasn't there, well...to be quite honest, it doesn't change ****.

either i'm cursed, or the router is.

hope somone knows what to do, or somewhere to point me to. thanks for any posts.

I had a similar problem with my router. It's an old one called Netgear RP114. Go into your router's port forward menu (mine is 192.168.0.1) and forward ports 113 to your computers port (mine is 192.168.0.4). Also forward port 4990 as starting port and ending port 5000 to your computers address (mine is 192.168.0.4). In mIRC, put first ports to 4990 and last ports to 5000. At least for my router, I can't send files on IRC unless I connect to port 7000 of that server, (like /server irc.freenode.net 7000). Good luck.

thanks for ur reply!

you inspired me to try again. lemmi tell you how I've got it set up:

-I've set port 113 to my computer.
-I've set ports 1024-1054 for DCC under mIRC and also in my router
-then, port 59 and various other common DCC ports others user use.
-port range 6991-6669 for the mIRC, now also 7000

now I've set it up to connect to port 7000, and I will restart the router and mIRC later. hopefully it works!

greatings,

I finally found the answer to all my problems!

Mirc works better then ever, Ident and DCC-Get from firewalled users works great, I'm not too sure about DCC-Send to firewalled users yet.

Here is what I did on my SMC Barricade 7004BR:

Open your web browser and type 192.168.123.254 for your routers web site (usually if you haven't changed the ip)
Login and go to Special AP, now you should see Trigger and Incoming Ports and all that.
in the Trigger column you but the port or port range that mIRC tries to connect to the irc server. Usually this value is anything between 6661-6669, sometimes 7000 various others. You just have to check that mIRC really uses your specified port, otherwise it won't work properly.
in the Incoming Ports column you should set the ports that will be used to poke holes into your firewall. Put 113 if you want to Ident, 59 is a very common port on IRC for connecting to other users which are firewalled, and any other ports you want to have open for mIRC.
make sure you reboot your router.

Now your all set to connect to mIRC again!

I hope this will help other users with this router, it might sound easy now...but it took ages for me to find out.
