I want to purchase an OEM Nero 5.5 CD Rom software on Ebay and was wondering if these OEM discs are only specific to the DVD burners they came with?
Thanks for your help!

short and simple: No

i got Nero with my cd burner and bought a dvd burner afterwards, but the nero OEM version refused to burn on my dvd burner. so i ended up aquiring the new nero 6.0 version which i wanted anyway and which now supports both burners w/o any problems!

steVe

edit: btw iirc buying an OEM version without the hardware it came along with is illegal...

I too had a version of Nero that had come with my CD burner, and then I got another version of Nero that came with my DVD burner. They would not work with the other drive.

So I had to buy a full version so I could use it with both.

this definitely sucks... in this case i would have contacted ahead...

i at least didn't get nero with my dvd burner - record now lx was bundled with it, but since i like nero and it suits all my needs i definitely didn't want to have a second burning proggy (well except clonecd) installed!

Actually you just need to copy the CD Key from the registry of the original install, then install the downloaded copy with the original CD Key.

this definitely sucks... in this case i would have contacted ahead... I was in exactly the same situation as Jolard, and I did contact Ahead. The reply was:

"I suggest to install that OEM version that has got more features. Then you can use the recorder that did not came with the installed version with Nero Express."
