Help burning with NEC DVD+-R/RW ND-1300A drive with Imation DVD-RW media

I have tried to burn a movie onto my imation DVD-RW disc but Nero 6 says to insert an empty disc into the drive. Nero recognizes that I have a DVD+-R/RW drive and that I have a DVD-RW disc in the drive, but still it says to insert an empty DVD+-R/RW disc.

I have similiar problems with RecordNow, which says that I need to insert a blank disc into the recorder.

I have formatted the RW disc with Nero and Alcohol 120% and then tried to burn, but the burning still didn't work.

Do I have a bad disc or is the imation disc just not compatible with my DVD+-R/RW drive? If it is not compatible, what type of discs would you guys suggest buying?

I appreciate the link. Unfortunately it did not have my DVD player but I do have one possible solution.

Would it help to set up my system such as this?:
IDE1: Hard Drive (Master) and DVD ROM (Slave)
IDE2: DVD+-R/RW (Master)

Right now it is:
IDE1: Hard Drive (Master)
IDE2: DVD+-R/RW (Master) and DVD ROM (Slave)

Should I make changes?

Bummer that you can't find any references on compatibility of DVDRW's for your burner. I checked the homepage for your unit (you probably did, too :) ), and couldn't find any info there, either. Some burners are notorious for being picky on RW-able discs, can you borrow some other brands from friends to test with before shelling out cash for more? Does the same problem occur with DVDR discs? I don't have a dead-bang solution for you, sorry. Maybe someone with more expertise than I will drop in soon.:( Your current hardware configuration is what has always been suggested to me, but maybe we need more help in that area as well. Hang in there!

Sounds good. I will test with new DVD R and RW discs - they can be bought in packs of one. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks a lot for your help.

@Mitch: the link you gave Sesami is only for standalone (settop) DVD Players. you won't find a single DVD writer in there ;)

here's your writer (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters.php?DVDname=nec+1300a&Submit=Search&buffer=Any&list=0&Search=Search) and here's the page (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdwriters) where you can look for other dvd writers... for your writer users have added a ton of comments about media compatibility. unfortunately i only find imation dvdr and no rw... but see for yourself

your hardware setup seems ok for me...

oh one other idea: have you tried DVDdecrypter to write an image to the DVD RW?

www.rpc1.org has all the firmwares you need (including the new released 1.06 FW) for your drive. If you look any further, you might find a patched 1.05 FW that accepts much more discs than the original one. (search for nec1300a in the rpc1.org forum)
