In the track editor, when you import an audio track, next to the pulldown list, where you choose the language, there's a little blue checkmark...When you press it, it becomes grayed out and you cannot press it anymore...
Does anyone know its functionality?

If you press the button you set synchronisation of the audio to no. Otherwise it's set to yes. (see the assets properties screen in the bottom middle of the screen). So if you check it no synced audio track will be created.

That's a very good question. I haven't found an other way then deleting the audio track and adding it again.

Very colorfull signature BTW

It was meant as being a little bit cynical :sly:

Since it's kind of like a personal statement, you should add whatever you want and not being to concerned by reactions from others ;).

What occasions are possible, when I must to set synchronisation of the audio to no ?

Thanks.

Well,
maybe anybody knows, what is means "..set synchronisation of the audio to no. Otherwise it's set to yes" ?
I compared two disks byte-to-byte, one was created with pushed in button-checkmark, other wasn't pushed. Both disks are identical.

Thanks.

I believe it just makes the audio the same length as the video if it's set to yes.

No - no padding is done

If is for AC3 streams with embedded timecode.
If the button is pressed (before dropping the AC3 file to it) the AC3 stream is aligned to the track timecode.

I think I recall that Scenarist synchs the audio to the video if it can find timecode in the ac3 or dts files that matches the videos timecode.

@Bigotti, isn't this valid for DTS as well?

edit: Bigotti beat me to it.

Partially correct

AC3 stream is always synched if start code of AC3 is > video start code
If AC3 start code is < video start code it is only synched if the box is pressed

Dont have DTS with timecode so cant test

Sorry for silence, I've thought nobody want to talk about this.

Yes, I've come to the same conclusion, after reading of the Maestro's manual:

Audio Asset Timestamps & Audio/Video Synchronization
..
Note: AC-3 (Dolby Digital™) is the only audio format in the DVD realm that allows timestamping. MPEG-1, layer 2, PCM and DTS™ audio formats cannot embed timecode into their streams. Therefore, the following section on timestamping audio only refers to Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio streams.
..
If the AC-3 stream is encoded simultaneously with video using the Spruce encoder, then (assuming the LTC button is activated), both audio and video will have the same timestamp information, and the timestamps can be used to provide guaranteed synchronization between video and audio.
..
If timestamp information is not present in the AC-3 stream, or the audio timestamp information is different from that of video, then timestamping cannot be used to synchronize the audio and video
..
Another issue occurs when using a timestamped AC-3 audio stream that has no defined relationship, in terms of time, to your timestamped video. In that instance, the audio timestamp could start hours after the video timestamp. For this situation, you can instruct your Spruce authoring software to ignore any AC-3 audio timestamping, by selecting ignore ac3 embedded timecode in the Movies tab of the Program Preferences dialog. By selecting this (usually temporarily), you can drop AC-3 audio assets directly into the Audio Timeline no matter what the relationship of their timestamps may be to the video assets. The first sample of audio will align perfectly with the first frame of video, without any alert messages.

As I understood, Scenarist's checkmark==Maestro's checkbox "Ignore AS3 Embedded Timecode"

After experiments with timestamped by Nuendo AC3, I've come to a conclusion, that AC3 stream is timestampsynched if start code of AC3 is == video start code only.

example

MPEG stream
Timecode: Start 00:00:10.00 - End 00:00:20.23
AC3 stream
Timecode: Start 00:00:05.05 - End 00:00:15.04

pressed

if start timecode of audio is greater than start code of video (e.g AC3 start 00:00:05.00 video start 00:00:00.00) audio is synched - button state does not matter

DTS™ audio formats cannot embed timecode into their streams

not true, DTS can have time stamps
Core Audio:
- Up to 5 primary audio channels (frequency components below 24 kHz).
- Up to 1 low frequency effect (LFE) channel.
- Optional information such as time stamps and user information.

Try, please, my PAL-timestamped AC3 by Nuendo:
_http://depositfiles.com/files/398316
With this AC3 nothing has resulted from my efforts to repeat you pictures.

Thanks a lot for source-link!

As I said

I took a video
length: 00:10.23
start timecode: 00:40.00
your audio (nuendo_(00;00;30;00)):
length: 00:13.08
start timecode: 00:30.00

synch button not pressed

http://members.aon.at/video.digital/kron1.png

drop audio in

http://members.aon.at/video.digital/kron2.png

audio is aligned to start, length is 10.23 (2.10 is cutted because of the video end)
synch button is greyed out (no timecode synch)

next

synch button is pressed

http://members.aon.at/video.digital/kron3.png

drop audio in

http://members.aon.at/video.digital/kron4.png

the first 10 seconds from audio are dropped
length of audio is 3.08
synch button is not greyed out (timecode synch)

If timecode does not overlap audio is always set to the begin of video (e.g video timecode start 00:01:00:00 to 00:01:59:00 audio timecode start 00:02:00:00 to 00:02:59:00)
